Any one got any idea how available Wi-Fi will be in Las Vegas and some idea of what the costs will be.

Keep in mind that if I use the mobile/cell phone type Wi-Fi access it will cost me an arm and a leg.

Many thanks for your help.

Some restaurants/coffee shops offer it, but hotels usually sell it to you by the day. (as a room charge) Generally it is in the $10-$14 per day range. (or free if youre on a frequent hotel chain member/rewards program)

WCAF doesnt offer free wifi on the show room floor, but they do sell it (to exhibitors).

I looked it up. In your hotel (Excalibur), they have free wifi in the KRISPY KREME donut shop.

Any Starbucks or McDonalds location

Harrah's – Harrah's itself does not offer free wifi, but there are 3 Starbucks in and next to Harrah's that all offer free wifi.

Rio – Starbucks there at Rio offers free wifi

Paris Las Vegas – Paris has free wifi in the coffee/pastry shoppe near the hotel elevators. By the entrance to the walkway to Bally's.

The Orleans – Free wifi in the Orleans, at the coffee place (I think the name is Seattle's Best).

Monte Carlo – There is free WiFi in the Food Court courtesy of McDonalds (Wayport).

Excalibur – Free wifi at Krispy Kreme in Excalibur works great.

New York New York – Free wifi at Il Fornaio at NYNY

Palazzo – If you are staying at the Palazzo, go down to Cafe Presse on the Second floor. They have Free Internet and have numerous tables and chairs for you to put your laptop on.

Tropicana – The Tropicana offers free wi fi throughout the entire hotel and it works great!

Downtown – Free wifi at Krispy Kreme on Fremont for those downtown folks.

Thanks Mike

Not so bad, the charges.

I have to check with my mobile/cell operator on Monday to see what sort of charges they will hit me for..... I think they may have a reasonable charge for the USA from what I can see on there website www.vodafone.ie

Hopefully I should be able to get a show rate as I'm supporting one of the exhibitors.

The main thing I will need on line for is Emil, one way or the other, I won't have to sell the house to cover the charges

I have a "Wi-Fi Finder" application on my iPad which would work on an iPhone. You can search for spots off-line once the database is downloaded. I am pretty sure there are similar apps for Android and probably for PCs and Macs.

Just for giggles, I did a search for spots in Las Vegas, and there are hundreds of sites on or near The Strip. I didn't count them but it seemed roughly half were free.

Google "Wi Fi Finder" and see what's available for your platform.

Thanks Bill

I have a Galaxy phone and pad, both have the Wi-Fi search facility, I have the pad since before Christmas, I got the phone on Friday only.

I'm so pleased with how they work, I don't think I will bother dragging a laptop to Vegas, I may get caught for a few files I may need to access but I will take the chance and hope I will manage without them, it will be a great challange for the pad to see how well it can meet my road warrior needs.

The pad I have is the 10.1 size....

Online/Cloud storage and business app are very high on my research list right now, it is astonishing how quick technology need have been changing of late.

I went for lunch with my wife last Friday when she got back from Salzburg, at the next table to us was a couple and there Photographer /Framer his whole presentation was a mock up album for the photographs, the photo presentation and suggested framing was all presented of a pad I think it was an I pad......the couple were totally at ease with how they were getting the presentation at a rough guess I suspect they were been sold a 3 to 4 thou send euro package.

there are at least 3 or 4 photographers i know in ireland, who actually as part of their wedding package give the client an ipad with their wedding images on it.

it works very well and sells very well

Well checked with my mobile/cell operator in Ireland today about charges while I'm in the USA, because I'm out of the EU the charges are astronomical, for calls and data....sneeky the way they have changed charging since my last trip to the US, I nearly passed out.

Looks like I will buy myself a ready to go phone when I get to Vegas for local calls,I think I can also use a US, cell number to get calls from Ireland without needing to get a second mortgage, are in coming call free on cell phones in the US! Calls to Irish mobile/cell numbers within Ireland are free.

I can make reasonable use of a US cell phone, I'm due to go to go to the AIC conference in Albuquerque in May http://www.conservation-us.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=Page.viewPage&pageId=710

My wife already has about 3 or 4 trips in her diary to the US for this year, she can make some use of the phone also.

I have a question, is there a site I can visit that will give me some idea how US ready to go / pre paid cell phones work regarding charges / usage if you are moving between states.....thanks for any heads up.

Thanks Jeff

That site only features the phones, I was looking for a site that would give details of the charges for using the phone.

Also I'm not bothering to hire a car this trip, I still having issues with my eye sight, on this trip I would not feel it would be safe for me to drive, so I will need to find a phone sales shop close to the strip in Vegas, I'm staying in the Excalibur hotel which is a little over a mile from the framing show, I will try and walk the journey a few times to get some exercise, I suspect I will find a few shops of various nature on route where hopefully I can meet my phone needs and also the need to do a little retail therapy :-)

$35 for 30 days of unlimited use. You will find tons of sellers of the throw away phones in Vegas because "What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas".

I look forward to seeing all of you getting arrested on that reality TV show Vegas Strip!!:beer::beer:

Thanks Jeff, that 35 dollar buy should do the job.... :-)

Framah.....if I get arrested and you are going to visit me in the nick, bring some English morning tea.....morning tea is my drink of choice. :kaffeetrinker_2:
