One of our local station has a morning show where on the first week of the year people submit names of notable celebrity personalities who listeners think will not make it to the end of the year.

Of course, the less tread left on the tennis shoes, the more of a shoe-in.

Here's the question:

What (vendor) companies do you think will not make it one year from today.

What trade shows do you think will be dogs this year? Which ones will not last 5 more years?

Any trade mags gonna get toasted, or editors axed, or play musical magazines again?

What web-sites / framing e-tailers or internet framing concept will fold?

Will M stock be up down or static in one year?

What mat colors will not last out the year?

What new mldgs are gonna be disc.

You have one year to add to the list.

Good topic!
I'd say new Nielsen tiger and leopard patterns will bite the dust fairly soon. When I think of animals, I think warm . These mouldings feel cold . (Also, why is it that whenever Nielsen comes out with a pattern that has color down in an embossed area, they always use the SAME colors?)
I also think that about 2/3 of Crescent's Elizabeth Dow collection will bite it as soon as their initial manufacturing run is sold out. (Despite the MEGAexpensive promotional campaign for them.)...Especially the ones that look like old kitchen linoleum and airplane interiors.
I also predict (although I hope I'm wrong) that N/B will discontinue the rest of the ColorCore boards. I miss the ones that are already gone. I may have to "go postal" if they ever get rid of #8881.

 Rick

I'm just hoping that Crescent Whitecore boards will be the next ones to go. I never liked the concept, and have even worked for someone (who shall be nameless) who passed them off as acid-free.

Actually nothing wrong with that, Seth...it's only if they attempted to pass them off as "Conservation" level boards!

Had I still inventoried standard / paper mats, I probably would have replaced them with white core, but as it turns out, we stock neither in our shop. However, I don't think they're going to dissapear, as the manufacturers sell too much of the product overseas and to OEM's. :D

If Bainbridge stays true to form, this year they will discontinue the regular alpha colors they introduced last year. And I predict the demise of the remainder of the classico line as well as black core... but that's okay, I switched to Cresent black core for this very reason.

I think it will be Victor Moulding....but that's just a guess.

Wow! Very prescient guess Charles. Want to add Sandel Glass?

My list includes anything in grayed-out softened colors, especially pink.

I hope Rick is wrong about the leopard and zebra Nielsens. I like the looks of them and they have nice depth. Rick, would you like the leopard better if you thought of it as cobblestone?

1) Anything Bainbridge in paper mats. That's why they're pushing the big 4" rag samples

2) Marbleized anything in mats.

3) Ditto Elizabeth Dow. Where'd she come from and who in Crescent thought of that???

4) Williamson???

5) Whitecores and Bainbrdige Color Cores

6) TruVue's Ultraclear? Does anyone sell this stuff???

Ditto Elizabeth Dow. Where'd she come from and who in Crescent thought of that?? If I am right she is (a yea you are right) a wall paper designer. Maybe now that we have connected to the PMA the Higher chain of command at Crescent thought we should also be tied closer to the interior designers. Makes sense if you are a OEM doing work for Furniture stores, right? Sorry, but it is already gone at my shop I actually threw them away as soon as I looked at them. Well that is as soooon as my staff & I quite laughing. Maybe the guy at Crescent has been spending to much time on his Harley. What no Harley mat board? Surely she has designed some Harley walpaper. Let's all email Crescent requesting Harley mat board. Maybe the black with the orange core is really suppose to be the Harley mat board?
I think there will be a big new player in the chain stores for framing.
Jim
ohio
Ps sorry got carried away

We recently got the Elizabeth Dow samples. I think they are beautiful! All of them. They are poetic. Cool color names, too. How could you just throw them away? I hope they are not discontinued in the near future.

Jana,

I can understand your feelings about the Dow collection. When I first laid eyes on them I thought, "These are definitely NOT "guy" type mats!" I figured that most of the male G'ers would vote them down. I am surprised that not more of the female G'ers haven't come out and defended them yet.

Personally, I can take 'em or leave 'em. I don't care if they look like wall paper or couch cushions as long as they sell and bring in some money for the ol' Framerguy.

The ol' Framerguy

Yup! - I like 'em, especially the 'net' and 'screen' ones. If this issue is going to be decided along gender lines, consider the gender of most of your customers before you throw out the samples.

That's part of the reason why they are still in my mat sample rack instead of File 13.

The Liz Dow collection is a keeper for us. We love them.

I posted this query before but I'll repeat it:
remember the LJ Hacienda that causes an optical illusion with certain mats? Remember the dow Crescents that aren't EXACTLY level or even, but kinda cattywhumpus? Now imagine framing Hacienda that causes optical illusions with this Dow mat. Customers turn green maybe?>? And not with envy

HARLEY MATS? WAY COOL. JIM MILLER, WHERE ARE YOUR SUGGESTIONS FOR COLOR COMBOS?
"Pretty In Pink" and "Baby Poop Beige" for the chicks. "Flaming Fucia" and "Way Off White" for the dudes. ;) :D

Personally, I'll keep my black leather. But Oooooo, maybe a few accents of "Road Film Gray"...

I agree unequivocally. Trash 'em. But the second day I had them, I sold four. Go figure. (I still don't like those caterwaller ones: they give me a headache.)
