I wasn't planning to go, but I have been hired to help someone set up a shop. If we go down, it has to be Friday (I wonder why they dumped Sunday?). I was wondering who I might bump into.
I'll be driving down on Friday and staying at a friends place in Jersey. Hop over to the city on Saturday and back to their place. Then on Sunday, I go down to South Jersey to another friends place and Monday we go to the Philly Flower show!!! After the winter we have been having up here, I seriously need to see and smell flowers and pretend it Spring!! Then it's back to Maine and another 3 months or so of Winter!! I'll be loking for name tags at the show. Hope I recognize some.
I'll be going down with another framer (new) from the area for the day on Friday.
We should try to get together for lunch that day. Just somewhere in the building for me. I expect to be pushing in for one day, but don't see enough reason to go for two.
Hmmm, Let's all get together for a "brown bag" lunch on Friday (the only day I'm there
). By that I mean grab a lunch wherever and all bring it to the same place. A room would be nice, but not having access, how about we meet at the top of the stairs in the Main concourse. Not sure how clear that is and if someone has a room it would be easier.
I'll be there Friday-Sunday. Cliff, I'd love to do a bag lunch on Friday. Or maybe cocktails that evening....I'll look for a place in the area. Any suggestions?
Hey Cliff, Whose the new framer your going with????? Not that guy from Shrewsury..... He would like to have lunch too I'll bet and looks forward to meeting other folks from the neighborhood.
Harry, I figured on mentioning it on the ride down! Of course you're invited!
(You can even bring your son! )
Oh, and for those of you who don't know, the "new" framer has been framing and in the industry for longer than I have thought of it as an industry ! He just opened a NEW shop in the area.
Hi: I'd like to meet some fellow Grumblers! I'm planning on training down from Portland on Thursday, spending all day Friday at the show, then training back home on Saturday. Think I found a Ramada in Jersey city right near Journal Square that's under $100/per night. I will call Ambassadors service group to check on special discounted rates for the Expo first.
Gina, make sure that Ramada is near the Path station. (Is it still called that?) In my college days it was a cheap ride
(35 cents!!!) into Manhatten up to 33rd St.
BTW, a nice English pub about 10 blocks north of the Javits is the Landmark Tavern @ 11th and 45th if anyone's interested....
Looks like bare bones for vendors (according to the vendor list from Decor Mag) ... at least it won't take long to zoom through ... might be an opportunity to shmooze with fellow Grumblers instead of "see everybody/get samples ... **** the torpedoes .. full speed ahead..." hope to see some of you...
I was planning to go since it can be a day (a long day) trip for me. I am just getting started in framing, so want to look at equipment. Is it better to go on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. I was wondering if Saturday would be too crowded.
If past history is a guide (and with no Sunday this year), Saturday might just be crowded ... besides, get there early; get the freebies before all the gloming framers (like us) get 'em.
josephforthill, I am going down with a gentleman from Spencer who is new to the business. You are welcome to join us-we are leaving from my house in East Longmeadow, which is a little more than an hour from you, I believe. The trip is about 2 and 1/2 hours from where I live.
Maybe someone closer to you will invite you along. You are in central Mass., am I right?
Pam, thanks for the offer. I am not sure what day I will go. I usually just go to Stamford and take the train from there. There is also a luxury bus service from my area to mid-town that runs daily.
Would still like opinions as to whether Saturday is a bad day to go, or if it does not matter.
