Can someone enlighten me about Aristree moulding? I saw an earlier post Marc Lizer had when asking for help with identifying a moulding, that mentioned a big box company and Aristee in the same post. But I'd like to know more. Thanks for your help.

I'd also like to add that they do it very badly. But they don't care, they don't have to. Kind of like the electric company.

Um, Artistree does the chops for Aaron Bros, and chops and joins for Michael's. They don't do ALL the framing. And Aaron Bros' also carries stuff from a couple other vendors (is that the right word?)

I believe you're thinking of the phone company.

You know Dave, I knew it was the phone company, I had forgotten it was Lily Tomlin though. It just seems that in this day of all the phone services and with all the cell phone companies out there that that statement no longer held true. So I updated it to the electric company. :D either way I guess the point is they are below most framers expectaions of quality.

Actually, ARTISTREE is one of several suppliers to Aaron Brothers, supplying the mouldings only. The product is usually joined by Aaron Brother employees... If anyone experiences a problem with how their custom frame was joined, contact their corporate headquarters at 1-888-FRAMING.

In hindsight my comments were a little heavy handed. Of course there is good and bad in any company. Michael's just doesn't bring out the best in me. Could be a result of some sort of Post traumatic stress syndrome.

AB,

Since you seem to have some insight here, could you share the standard proceedure for an Aaron Brthers joined frame?

From what I have seen, the latest standard MO, is plastic thumbnails and no glue.

As for having a problem with the joins.

No. None at all.

Just keep on doing 'em that way.

But in the end it's all about profit.

In fact Michales/AB stock just a one day 20% rise in value after posted earnigs exceeded estimates by double.

The other interesting one was an small intenet snipet of the SEC now investigating the Michaels stock buy-back they initiated as insider trading when stock value was lower, but they had prior knowledge of the future actual earnings.

Oh the joys of high finance.

I have not known any Aaron Bros (in Houston, at least) that doesn't use glue building their frames. That's certainly not how the employees are trained to do it. We do use the plastic wedges though, and sometimes I have to glue and nail the frames too small for them to put the hole for the wedge in.

Michael's gets their frames pre-joined (v-nailed) from Artistree, except for the very large ones, which they build in-house, using the same plastic wedges.

Yeah, we have always used glue too. Although, when I first took over my first Michael's shop the "person" before me bragged he could build a frame in 45 seconds. My comment was I can barely unwrap a frame in 45 seconds. He assured me his time included unwrapping. I observed his frame building "skills". Just a dab of glue in the hole before the wedge. Why no more glue, I ask? Just takes time to clean up he replied. Been doing them this way at least 5 years he added. Oh, that must be why when I grab a built frame off the wall it wobbles, I retorted. Needless to say, I had to start other people building frames. I'd say for the first two years I ran that shop we had at least three frames a week returned because the frames literally fell apart on the wall. This guy was a CPF too, supposedly.
