Where did my desk top go? perplexed.

Okay
I have lost all my short cuts on my desk top.
& when I click on my start button then all programs it shows no programs.
However I opened My computer and then c:drive and everything is there and i can open everything that is there. It ate all my Favorites in my iexplorer. I can add new ones to my favorites. All my other programs work but what happened to the desktop? Even the screen saver works.
Is this a setting or what?

Was there a power failure while it was writing perhaps? It sounds like a corrupt user profile.

Are you documents still there or are they gone?

There is a recent virus flagging all files as hidden and deleting the start menu shortcuts.
Made a nice bit of money off of it last weekend.

Run System Restore and go back to a date when it was all good.
