When 1-3 are saying "Don't come here!"

A customer comes in from an area of town that we don't draw from. She had a framed print to remat and one to frame.

Shop #1, nearest her, closed all day - either a long holiday or gone to Atlanta, but gone at any rate.

Shop #2, Mich***'s! Quoted her $100 for the mat change. Long turn around too, I'm sure.

Shop #3, Around the same distance from her as us: Didn't know how to price for the remat, instructed her to come back when the "guy" was there.

Shop #4, Us! Hey, we're open! Hey, we have employees! Hey, they know how to price! Sure, we'll remat your piece! And frame that other one. We'll email you when they are done in about a week, ma'am! And actually, we'll email her on Thursday or Friday.

Wonder where she'll go next time?

I'd say 70% #1 and 30% us. But, ya never know, maybe we won one. It takes a lot to make someone drive 20 minutes past a competitor to come to you, but we'll do our best.

Give her a $10 or 10% discount card for her next order "to help pay for the extra gas." She'll never stop at #1 again.

especially if you phrase it like that... "thanks so much for giving us a chance. To help bring you over next time, please keep this card to pay for the extra gas and effort to visit us." I think you will have that one forever.
