Hi all,

I need some help here. A few months ago I framed a bunch of landscape photos for a gentleman. He brought them back for me to clean because they had developed fog on the inside of the glass.

Now that I have them open, it appears that the "fog" is a filmy condensation that perfectly follows the mountain line of the photo on the inside of the glass. Wherever the photos contain blue sky, the fog appears on the glass.

What could be causing this? Is the blue ink outgassing somehow? They were printed on photo paper but seem to be digital. Is there anything I can do to prevent it recurring? He wants to pick them up tomorrow and I would like to pass on to him as much information as I can.

Much obliged.

P.S. The photos are double matted so they aren't touching glass.

Thanx.

I have seen this also. If you get in there you will find that they are easy to clean. When this happened my customer asked the photographer about it. Letting the prints sit for (I Belive 24 hours) will solve the problem.

I've had this happen to me and posted on the grumble about it. On mine, the artist had printed it 1 week before he gave it to me and I had it 1 week before I framed it and in less than 24 hours, before I even delivered it, it had a haze on it.

Here's the old thread, some interesting answers on it:

We used to call it "photo phart". Happens with some posters too...... are you using an rattle can cleaner like Sprayway?

The solvent in the ink is curing and filming on the glass. Lay a piece of brown kraft paper over them tonight and fit them in the morning. Should cure the problem.
