I know that those who have been on this forum for many years have experienced the wonder of seeing Mar's Framaree, but I and others who haven't been here as long had no idea what a talented and dedicated a person we have amongst us.

For those who haven't had the pleasure you are in for an amazing treat ...for those who haven't revisited lately, treat yourself again.

Mar gracefully agreed to let me post this separately ...so that no one would miss it after it came up in another thread.

Thanks, Mar ...now I'll let Framaree speak for itself!

Enjoy!

Gee, Dave - you just gave me an idea!

Whilst I was working on the Framaree box, I would corner artist-customer/friends and let them choose a miniature frame and then tell them "Make me cat art!" Most never stopped at one piece of art - I usually received many more! In the whole box there is only one piece of non-cat art.

But now, now that I know all of you talented framers.......

Hmmmmmmm....

Maybe I should see if any y'all want to make me a little frame???????????

Scale is 1"=1' (also called dollhouse scale).

Just in case.......;)

We've seen Mar's work before, Dave. She is a very talented and creative artist and her website is not to be missed. I do like the box, but I also like the horses and the photo album. I've spent a lot of time on Mar's website!

Both Mar and Darla have great depth of knowledge of materials land how to use them. We are lucky Grumblers to have them both here.

I second that "WOW" Hugh and raise you an "incredible". That's my first time to see Mar's website. I LOVE all the detail. I think my favorite part is the frame samples...I wish we could get some of those samples!

Thanks for sharing Mar and thank you for telling Kim's story. Remembering those that have touched our lives in such a profound and positive way is the best way to honor their spirit.

I thought I'd show y'all some of the items in the little frame shop and how they relate to the same items in my big frame shop.

This is my trusty old Red Devil - probably older than most of you Grumblers - I've owned it since 1970 and it looked like this back then!

My 24" paper cutter - sits on a bench now but originally had its own legs and little shelf.

Here is the little matcutter sitting on top of the Hendrixson Head on my Keeton Kutter. The bar goes up and down on the little one but the head is glued into position.

Big dust brush - little dustbrush!!! Made from wood and horsehair.

You will notice that the little gun is out of tape - LOL!!!

Hey Vivian - do you have any close-ups from your miniature shops?????

it would be a trip to make boxes of all the shops [well the good ones] that I worked in....

let's see... two years each to make.... nope, I'm already to old.

Mar, thanks for the comparison pictures of the tools. I think your tools are the coolest. But then, I'm a tool freak.

You need to send the link to MicroTek... they would trip.

This is absolutely wonderful! Thank you Dave for showing it to all of us that didn't know, and thank you Mar for the wonderful experience!

I LOVE dollhouses, and have a wonderful one that I will one day figure out to post...If I EVER needed framing done in MY dollhouse, I would come to you.

DO THE CATS HAVE BUSINESS CARDS? :)

OMG!!!

Business cards! I never made business cards for Maree!!!!!

YIKES!!!

(these boxes are never considered finished - I just keep adding to them!)

Beyond the enjoyment we derive from viewing such a wonderful piece of work,
this display will inform the future as to how things were done, in the past. In
the sculpture garden of the Natinoal Gallery of Art, there is a typewriter eraser by Oldenberg and visitors younger than a certain age have no idea what it is. Scale models of houses are pretty, but scale models of work places are also informative.

"Typewriter Eraser, Scale X" is now in
Seattle at the Olympic Sculpture Park.

If they're under 40, they have no idea. As one
guy told his wife and kids.. "I think it's just a Hot Wheel". :faintthud:

Ha! I remember those! And I remember when typewriter paper was reeeeeally thin and those erasers would rub a hole in the paper if you weren't careful! I rubbed a lot of holes in the paper. I wasn't a very good typer. I was delighted when those paper white-out things came out....backspace, stick the paper in, type over the letter, type over with the correct....walla! Fixed! I dida lot of backspacing too. Then came liquid whiteout. Wow! Doesn't work so great on the computer screen though.

Hugh had a great point, about the workplace boxes being reflective of history. I wonder what a frameshop box like Mar's would look like in 10 years or so? Mar, better get started now!

Mar, you up to making a mini-Wizard?

Good one, Val!

If Mar would lend me some of her mini tools for my minature watercolors I need to frame it would be wonderful ...but then she'd have to make a mini-me too!

:p

Dave, I'm sure Mar can do that!

.................... "Honey....I shrunk Dave!"

 ............:D

Anyone see the recent CSI shows that depict a serial killer that ceates miniatures of their crime scene before they commit the crime? It's done to great detail. I'm not saying but I'm just saying...........

I've seen it all before but it has been a while.........still amazes me Mar. You might be on to something there Brian, I bet Mar is wound pretty tight working on those teeny things. I knew somebody once who made miniature bears, she even knit them sweaters using fine thread and straight pins as knitting needles. Her work was amazing but we were all a little nervous around her. I figure her quirks are what made her so creative.......I'm not sayin' but I'm just sayin'..................

Mar does say on her web site that making Framaree was a stress relief ...so I don't think we have to worry about her ...that was enough of a project to release a ton of stress!

:D

Good therapy...

Well, I have had the honour of seeing this stuff for real!

But Mar had just driven us 6 hours from Steph's - it was late ..... well, dark; oppressively humid and my brain hurt!

But there was more at her house - amazing.

You're a star Mar.

My only critique of the CSI models is that the clothing on the last victim (the woman on the sofa) - they made her clothing out of fabric that looked too coarse - too bulky for the scale.

That blue checkered apron that Maree is wearing is the teensiest print I have ever found (and I have had a few scraps of it since I was about 10 years old - knew it would come in handy some day!).

I spend hours looking for just the right scale of fabric - the customer in the frame shop is wearing a vest made from an old silk brocade "mat" from a Chinese scroll - with purse to match from a different mat. And a lot of my creations are clad in scarf material, because it is gauzy and stretchy - especially cheap LOL scarves from thrift stores - I have them in a rainbow of colors.
