I am seeing a lot of photos mounted by the photographer or their lab that is on something that appears to be Sintra at first look. It is actually compressed paper with an outer layer that is glossy and slick feeling.

The mounted photos are supper smooth with no orange peel and the board is quite rigid.

I have searched the Internet and I come up with nothing.

I have seen both white and black of this product.

Any ideas?

maybe they're getting the warped crescent rag mats that have been returned? ground down and , oh wait you said rigid, not floppy :)

Betcha dollars to donuts that that stuff'll off gas, leach acid or otherwise reek havoc once it gets sealed into one of our hermetically sealed conservative framing packages! Probably live forever in a cheap readymade with no fading or damage to the photo, but framed properly and it'll ruin everything.

in other words i have no clue what their using. But that hasn't stopped me from voicing an opinion before!

Thanks for the hints!

Searching around this morning, the product looks like it is made by a company named Coda. This may be what I'm looking for.

It comes pre-adhesived, and ready to use. Unlike Sintra that needs a wet glue process.

I can say this, the stuff ain't cheap.
