Hello all and thank you in advance for some assistance.

We have a fairly large problem with the spots on a large commercial order. The frames have cardboard corner protectors with no liner and are transported to different shows on a monthly basis. We have been able to fix the corners with 000 steel wool but cannot really identify the cause. We have tried to duplicate the problem by rubbing the frame with actual cardboard and cannot make it look the same. Is it possible temerature? The vibration from moving the images in a box truck? Possibly pressure alone from ather images leaning against each other? I have searched and found the solution here but I do not see a cause. Help!

Matt

Just the cardboard burnishing the corners. I hate smooth black frames for so many reasons and this is near the top of the list.

You need to have some soft material between the frame and corner protector everytime.

I usually bag the frames in clear plastic bags then put the corners over that.

That seems to minimize if not eliminate scratching on the finish by the cardboard corners.

The Mr Clean Magic Eraser in grocery stores all around the country. It's the one that takes marks off of your walls without removing paint at home.

The Magic Erasers really work. It is my new favorite framers tip. Thanks Edie.

I once saw a batch of black painted timber frames which had been rubbed right back to the bare wood by cardboard corners.

I always hand over my work wrapped in bubble wrap.

Do you use Mr Clean Magic Eraser dry or wet?

If you use it wet, what do use to dry the surface so it doesn't streak?

I have been using a 6" orbital buffer dry with the polishing bonnet on matte black frames when there are finish differences.

Dry

Larry,

I use the Magic Eraser too - dry. I also use Scotch Brite soap scum erasers - same thing. Just use the white side, not the blue.

It will change your life. One of the best tips ever and has helped me keep (some of) my sanity over the past few months.

Thanks Edie!

steaks an finger prints on matt black frames clean up nice and quick with glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth.

I'm sold. I just tried it on a couple of matte black frames that I didn't send out because of blemishes in the finish that I didn't notice until I had the frame joined.

No more blemishes - I could have sent them out. Even took care of some slight scratches. Acts like an extremely high grit sandpaper.
