I'm confused. Have firm plans been made of which I know nothing? (Could happen.) Disregarding any private parties to which I may not be invited---sniff---is there a public gathering? Which night, where, and of what kind??

MerpsMom,

Here is the most recent word from Sue May (dated 8/14:)

Hope to see you all soon!
Does that help you firm up your plans?

Wish I could go. While you guys are all gone I will man the controls here on the Grumble, by myself. :(

Charles, Was that pitiful enough for ya? You said to act pitiful with the Nissan mechanic. Even though I probably have that aced I thought I should practice. What you didn't see was the puppy dog eyes and the trembling lip.

Excuuuuse me... you who are a cat person through and through, what know ye of puppy dog eyes? Let's face it, YOUR specialty has to be the gimlet eyed stare.... hahahahahahahaha

Aside from any dinner plans, is there a meeting room or a particular booth in the trade show where Grumblers plan to converge?
Seems like in the past that Bogframe was at a certain booth and offered that as a meeting place.
Please let me know, as I'd love to meet a bunch of grumblers face-to-face.
Looking forward to seeing you next month
 Rick

Kathy, you'll do fine, 'specially with puppy dog eyes. Tremblng lip is a good touch, too.

Cathie,
Pay no attention to them. The party's in our room. Ron and Tom are furnishing the beer, and you and I can talk golf. Me thru the proxy of my stepson.

I have been working with Susan May to set up the Grumbler dinner and need some feedback.

Friday night from 6 - 8 PM there is a "Meet the Artist Reception." Will this be a conflict for Grumblers and HHs. Is Saturday better?

Hear Ye, Hear Ye

The Kentucky/Tennessee Chapter of the PPFA is having "Meeting" Saturday afternoon in a Suite at the Embassy Suites from 12:00 to 2:30 p.m. This is a Chapter "Take a Load off" Meeting and bring your own lunch while we supply the Coffee and Softdrinks. Now, not that the Chapter can supply drinks for all the Grumblers, but it would make a nice place for a Face to Face Meeting Place. (I'm a poet and don't know it)If Ron or someone wants to kick in for beverages that can be arranged. At this time the Suite number is unknown but will let you know.

Cyro what's at the meet the Artist thing that is better than anything else. Friday or Saturday is fine. Just let me know where to stash the kid!

Courtney, there is also a FACTS meeting Friday evening that will affect some of us. (Actually, the outcome will affect ALL of us, but that's another thread.)

My vote would be for Saturday.

Friday, Saturday, Smaterday: Will someone please step in and set this thing up? Who wants to be Chair? Please?? (Sorry: two glasses of Cab in the middle of the afternoon removes some inhibitions.) Just DO it.

I hope you are not using any sharp objects this afternoon!

.....and that sport is?

There is a Framer Select meeting Friday evening from 8-11:00PM that will effect some of us. So my vote would be for Saturday.

How about ahead of the Framer Select meeting? Doesn't the show close at 6:00? We'd only need about an hour to make acquaintances. Ron and SueMay, is there a close-by bar, restaurant, or meeting room?

Hobbes, the torture is golf. You can do little else in the way of so-called fun humiliating yourself to the degree it's possible with this game.
Then, of course, we continue to do it.

Cathy,

Ron, Mark, and I will be arriving in Atlanta early Friday morning, assuming Ron doesn't take any scenic "shortcuts" on the way down there. I don't know what anybody else is doing but I dont' have any classes planned for Friday so maybe I can at least keep track of who is where and if somebody hears of a meeting for us Grumblers/HH'ers, we can spread the word via cell phones and maybe get a few of us to the right place at the right time.

If you want to contact via email, I will give you my cell phone # and we can maybe start a phone tree if anybody else wants to join in. It may not work but, at least we can have some sort of communications lines set up if anything happens to work out.

I think we should call a grumblers, HH's meeting on the first tee at any great golf course in the area. Whata you think? I have acrylic clubs, you know.

Cathie, I have too, actually. Always wanted to be a nice Henredon wingback, or maybe a really nicely overstuffed recliner. I KNOW! One of those vibrating recliners that heats up and stuff....

PS: Paul's handicap is now .5!!! Mine is my memory.

Back to the subject at hand.... I think the Meet The Artist Mob Scene could be "blown off" with great impunity. I don't know when the FACTS thing is (or if I did, I have forgotten).

Sorry folks, but your good ol' Unca Boggy is going as a spectator this year. (unless some vendor wants to snap him up in the meantime)
I'm up for Krispy Kreme breakfasts, Dinners or just-plain get-togethers, so let me know and I'll be there.

The meeting on Friday is for industry educators. Jim, Ron and I are preparing stuff to give to educators so they can teach FACTS far and wide. Ellen, you already RSVP'd so get your head straight girl!!

I'm working in the Neilsen Bainbridge booth at the show and we could meet there if you'd all like. It's a big booth and easy to find. BUT, Friday is out for me. How about Saturday night because it's all I have left?

PS, I'll be doing a lot of yawning, because I have a full schedule. Hope to see some of you at one or another talk I'm doing there for DECOR, PFM and NB. Most of you are not going to know me because I look a bit different.

By the way, can't let a post go without pleading for checks. Have you all sent one? Please do, I'll be going to the other FACTS meeting and want to pull in a big box of checks!!

Nona,

If we decide to meet at an industry booth, and if anyone plans a class at that time in the booth, it may be wise to forewarn him or her that Grumblers and HH's are coming.

Three years ago we did just this, and the teacher was a bit annoyed with the "Grumblers" visiting much too loudly in the back of the booth. Those who didn't know what/who Grumblers were (most of the people in the booth), clearly thought we were a bunch of loud malcontents. Pretty amusing to us, but not to the teacher.

Two years ago we met in the Fletcher booth. After a few minutes, John Ranes needed to do a CMC demo. Imagine trying to keep quiet while surrounded by Grumblers you have just met, but know well via the internet. If memory serves, John directed a few mild glares toward the back where Merpsmom and I were sitting not so quietly. ;)

Would the ONMI bar which has already been mentioned and is across the street from the convention center be a convenient place? But when?

Good point on the teachers. I have no idea if I will or someone else will be speaking then, but yes, they might not like it if we make noise. I can outshout just about anyone, but most people can't, so you might be right to meet at the bar instead.

Sue May is not ignoring all of you... She is busy helping her best friend with a family emergency. I will be talking to her (Sue, that is.) soon, no doubt. We definitely are looking forward to meeting you all in Atlanta.

Suggestion re Atlanta:

Looking over the floor plan for the show I notice that next to the "Showcase Frameshop and Gallery" there is an area marked Cafe. I suggest we declare one of these tables to be "Grumbler Territory". Lets put a Grumbler sign on it and make it a casual meeting place. Go there anytime or perhaps more specific times such as on the hour every hour and see who might drop by. We could also place a sign-in clipboard where Grumblers could put their Grumbler number, nickname, real name, where from, and perhaps some comments like "I'm buying coffee for all Grumblers that show up at 3:45 PM tomorrow!" Maybe this would lead to some more formal get-togethers as Grumblers meet and get to know each other.

I will be demonstrating the F-6100 CMC in the Fletcher-Terry area during the show and would design a CAD "Grumbler Mat" to be used as a sign on the table and I would be glad to make up some Grumbler sign-in pages.

I enjoyed meeting other Framers at the coffee tables in New York and Las Vegas. Enjoyed a lunch break with Nona. And speaking of Nona - she could put a box on the Grumbler table for all those FACTS checks that framers will be bringing with them!

I was just thinking the same thing, John. Grumblers could meet for lunch and breaks everyday. Although the food is better, the cafeteria is a pretty long hike for breaks. There is a comfortable area on the 2nd or 3 floor by the escelators with tables & food although the food selection is smaller than the cafeteria (great brownies though!).

Y'all have fun!

Great idea about the Cafe for a meeting place during the day and especially about the sign for FACTS. Make me one and I'll see it keeps monitored. Make me two and I'll put one in the Bainbridge booth. Anyone else want a sign for FACTS?

Dare I make another suggestion? The sign-in list should include a column for cell numbers. That way we can interrupt people no matter what they're doing! ;)

Or will I be blamed for that, too?!

On second thought, maybe we don't want those numbers public. I think not.

Strike the above suggestion.

Hi all. Sorry about not being on the Grumble to answer any questions. But I will try to make this as clear as mud.

:D Decor has informed me that there will be Hitch-Hiker and Grumbler's ribbons available at the registration booth. Just remember to ask for yours.

:D I am still waiting for final word from Decor about our meeting room. I think they are still offering the "Meet the Artist" room before the artist speaks. (Like they think we will go quietly! ) (I will try for a different room.) (Bob... are you bringing the Krispy-Kremes? ;) )

:D As you can see, Courtney from CYRO is helping to set up a dinner for a large group of wierdos... I must remember to bring her something for THAT insanity. I also will vote for the Saturday dinner.

So... Not that I have made the mud a little clearer, do you now know where and when you are going... Mom? (Merps' that is.)
