Hello. Painting my shop.
What colors??? : )
One solid wall with a window, computer, etc.
Three walls split. Three feet up of drywall, 4 feet of fabric, 1 foot of drywall.

Show me some pictures :)
Trim has to be white. Ceiling is white.

Maybe consider a soft white for a unifying effect on the ceiling and the area on the wall above the carpet. What is on the floors? Fixtures?

people are starting to make more and more risks with designing with bold colors in the home. If you are planning on displaying ready to hang art for sale I would consider something that is in keeping with the currents trends. I see red as something that will be trendy for some time. Pair it with a warm shade of grey for a neutral zone and throw in a cool pale shade like a minty green or aqua on one wall to display more brightly colored wares like art for kids.

Oh, I wish I could choose paint colors. It is so. much. fun.

when I did my place I came from a black walls-black ceiling place-------VERRRY depressing on a daily basis & I dont think it does justice to 'reality' or the art work---- sooooo, I did the walls white with just the slightest hint on some pink in it---darker than 'just' white & putting a nice warm tone into all those harsh overheads ....alot more like something anyone would do in their own house........I then put a black gridwork over that for hanging art(interesting contrast to the lighter walls & helping to moderate the 'white look'----was told over & over how nice the place looked(and, of course, so did the art)

I am in the middle of picking colors as well so understand the problem. I think it depends a little on your situation. My new shop is on the dark side, not a lot of natural light, so I will keep the interior lighter. I will put laminate wood on the floor, probably maple and will paint the walls a creamy yellowish white with some red accent walls. (I agree this is a trendy color and found in lots of homes today).
Other than that, a lot is personal preference anyway. Pick the colors with which you are comfortable. You have to work in it all day!

we have white slat board ( prefinished) on all walls and light grey fabric on sample walls...we painted all areas not slat boarded with different colors in pastel tones. the over all effect is good and slat board makes display a breeze.

We remodeled and moved to our current gallery 2 years ago. I painted the walls a soft gray with a touch of lavender. Sherwin Williams "Swanky Gray". I have had many customers comment how much they like it and ask for the color name. I have all white woodwork and I even painted the ceiling with it. I have charcoal carpeting on the frame sample wall. You can't see much of that though because of all the corner samples hanging on it. Last Chistmas I did paint the two front vinette walls that face the windows a tomato red and reddish brown. They look awesome displaying art at night with the track lights on.

Just got back from Home Depot checking out their OOPS colors (messed up paint at $5 a gallon).

Walls are going to be a light mint and a light beige in my work room and the other room I am going to use crescents color trend forcast selections.

I LOVE Home Depot`s paint.Behr is wonderful stuff for Murals too! L.(P.S. where is the shop you are painting now?)

We paint our walls a lot!

We have a 10' x 10' square at the front of the shop that changes seasonally. Right now is is lavender. By Christmas it will be dark red.
Main walls are pale green right now, and the ready made room is the same green with one light brown wall. Customers are painting thier walls at home with colors, so we do too. The framed art just pops out against the color. Be bold. I love red.

Steven~~ quick question~ what do you have for flooring??
That can depend a lot on what to paint the walls...........my cieling is black (I also have a 12' celing!) and my walls are an off white....I have track lighting~so very peaceful and modern......:D
Good Luck!

It's time for me to paint but I'm not tired of the colors yet. I've had the same colors for the 2 years I've been at my location. Here are the origional colors I picked.

Hey Jay, although it's hard to tell accurately on a computer screen, one of those colors looks like my favorite wall color, Slippery Rock by Sherwin Williams. It's a soft, gray-brown which is very comfortable to be around, changes its appearance subtly as the light in the room changes, and makes a great background for showing art.

I am almost done painting. I chose a light neutral called Grecian Ivory, which I really like. However, I decided to be "bold" an try a color on one accent wall. It is the wall that divides my showroom from my workroom. The wall is 15 foot long and has a large window opening in the middle so i can look outside while working (and yes customers will be able to see in the back). It is the wall you will face when you walk through the door. I painted it a light grey/blue (but as I mentioned to Ylva...it turned out to be more blue then grey. It is a trendy color and "I" like it. But, as I look at it I wonder if it's too "much" or if it will be ok once it is covered by moulding samples. I'm thinking of using light grey velcro strips, so that the wall color will be the backgroud to my moulding sample display. I am putting down dark lamitate wood floors.

I also thought blue might be a bit "different" then the expected red or black background. Plus it is cheerful. But....lol...it is well...blue. :-)

I"m going down now to have a stare at it and hold samples up to it. I need a frameshop visualizer program :-)

It is difficult to pick colors without testing them in the area and lighting it will be in. Many colors are not available in samples. We found a website MyPerfectColor.com that sells small 16 oz. mini cans of any color from many different companies. I think it is $6.00 and it is well worth it.

We ended up painting a neutral light cream color and did one accent wall in a Ralph Lauren dark rust color. It is very dramatic. Unfortunately it is the wall right under the tenant's bathroom and they tend to overflow their bathtub quite often. Every time that happens it is time to repaint all over again. I guess if we get tired of the color at some point we can just change it but so far we still love it!
