Customer brings in 2 "pastel" potraits done about 1920 very old some mold,
1 is very buckled , with a 1/2''x1/2'' rough stock nailed to the piece, upon a closer look i find that it is paper mounted to a sheet of LEAD.
it also has a build up of wax on the back side at tha bust and head area to build it out to create depth. the wax now is all crumbley and both are fairly dirty, She wants them framed about doesn`t have "exhaustable funds to restore them and frame them".
I feel what I`m looking at is the "Package" to a very wide Victorian frame minus the glazing, if there was any in the firt place.
Anybody have anything like this if so what have you done?
thanks

Repeat after me: "This is beyond my level of expertise. I can recommend someone more qualified."

This is a $20 job. Give the customer $20 and send them on their way...

This is where you smile and say " I'm sorry, but we can't properly do this job here, but we can recommend ( your competitor here) .

No, to a pass. Use your best judgement to come up with a design - take your time - make a proposal wherein you can make a proper profit and cover a little extra for contingencies. Stand firm on your price and let your customer decide if it's worth it.
