Very cool.... especially with the varied colors of ribbons!

One thing...I don't think I would have done the 2 angled cuts on the left and right ribbons at the bottom... brings my eye to that immediately...

yOu know the rules, Rogatory!

Now! Cough up the rest.

Frame: ??????
Mats: ???????
How many hours? Design theory?

And are those winners ribbons for Wiener Dogs, or is it just my glasses????

Now that you have heard from my pushy evil twin on Vicodin . . .

Let me just add, Very nice piece. Personally I LIKE the "v" cut mats on the two.

very nice,

but I also want to know what Baer's pushy evil twin wants to know.

handjob or CMC??

I'm really impressed on how well it all fits around the ribbons.. job well done!! You should get a ribbon for that frame!

Marion

I mean this, Thank all of you!
I made the decision to go with the “v”. Squaring it off just didn’t look right (too blocky) but the “v” bottom balanced the weighty sides visually.

The frame is LJ’s Metro gold.
Top mat: A-Bay Leaf, bottom/sides: M-Sun.
Design time: Mats about 45min. and two test cuts
The mats have 11 shapes: 3 circles and 8 rectangles
Wizard 5k
AutoCAD 2002 and converted the file to Vcadd. (Received 5.2 upgrade in the mail this morning so I will be playing with it this weekend.)
There is a cardboard backing behind each ribbon, so I just sewed them down to the mat through it.
Total time: about 3.5hr.
Cost: about $400

These are <s> Wiener, Whiner </s> Uh Westminster winner ribbons for a b!tch named Halleluiah.

Looks good. I'm curious why you went through the cadd programs rather than use the merge openings?

Terry,
Good question, the answer is I didn't have it installed at that time and I never did like Vcadd.

I have a couple of suggestions for the program but will try the 5.2 version this weekend first. The main suggestion is to have the option to break ALL intersections at once, delete the lines that need to go, then join. Sure could speed up design time.
Does anyone know if this is possible?

Very nice, good color choices and the cuts around the ribbons work very well. Many times people have problems with proportions but these work very well. Enough room around (top, bottom and sides) the ribbon openings, but not too much and enough room between them. The eye is drawn to the ribbons, then the rest of the composition partly because the matting works so well in terms of color and light and dark contrast with the frame. They blend rather than each having a distinct presence.

Yes this is part of the new software. Its called pathtrace. I was cutting complex mat like adding the state of ohio in the bottom corner of the mat with 1/2" around going in the main opening (clear as mud)with in a 1/2 hour of setting up the new 8k board.

Rogatory, you should look in to upgrading to the 8k. It is a night-and-day difference over the 5k.

Angie, the ribbons come with a cardboard circle attached to the back of the rosette. The circles usually have a hole for hanging and a place to write a description. It's not corrugation.

Jframe...you like to answer my questions, don't you?
I must look really stupid
... but I'm glad I asked, I've never really framed ribbons like those before, so never thought about how they were able to be so hard in the center (the cardboard  duh

)... I guess people just don't frame ribbons in Missouri that much...
Maybe a good sample in the shop would give them the idea to frame them... i don't know.

Anyway Rogatory, I really do like your design, the way the openings follow the shape of the ribbons along with that colored matting really just puts the focus on the ribbons. Again good job and sorry for my question if it seemed rude.

My experience with this kind of award ribbons is that they have metal tabs on the back which can be bent outward, threaded through slots in the mat, and bent back down for very secure mounting without adhesive.

You mean one of those deep dark framing trade secrets we have to keep away from our competitors by not telling them about the Grumble or the PPFA?
 Rick
