I wasted $300 & over a month on a guy who "specializes" in web design before I figured out he was over his head. For those of you that feel you have a very professional website, please give me a ballpark estimate.

How much should I have to spend for a sharp looking home page, an "about us," and a portofolio. There will be no e-commerce. It will be a fairly simple site top build for a qualified company. I want them to get me up, fully functional, and be able to be easily accessible when typed into Google, etc. And I also want to be able to enter and edit my content.

I have already registed my domain name and am being hosted by ValueWeb through Costco - $14.95/month.

Thanks to all! Steve

Why not use a template based solution to develop and maintain the site yourself. Applications such as Web.com's SiteBuilder are inexpensive ($6.95 per month including hosting, development tool, and technical support), easy to use, and produce good professional looking results. Many add-on modules are easily incorporated.

It all depends on what you want your site to do. We wanted a very custom look to our site. (www.coastalframeworks.com) We have a HomePage, About, Gallery, News, and Contact pages. There is some Flash on the Homepage, an email form in contacts, the news page I can edit the content and photos myself at any given time. It has been a great tool for us.

We used a professional company that is right across the street from us so we can drop in on each other at any time. As far as a ballpark figure on this; between $2500 and $4000 from concept to finished product and any little tweaking that needs to be done from time to time. It was all done in trade so it really worked out well for the both of us. Can you do it cheaper?
Absolutely. Again it all depends on the look and the functions. We wanted ours to stand out a little more from the others and it seems to be working.

I’m paying Euro €995 (about US$ 1295) for a web site which will be as follows…

Your own clean professional looking website with easy navigation
• The design customised to suit your business logo and colour scheme
• Your own Content Management Section allowing you to add/edit/delete content simply with a click of a button
• 1-10 content pages for your site
• 1 year free Domain registration (.com .net .org .uk, etc.)
• 1 year free Jenerate Performance website and e-mail hosting
• 1-5 e-mail addresses (eg. you @yourcompany.com.
• Unlimited alias email addresses
• Webmail (access your e-mail from anywhere in the world remotely)
• Webalizer website statistics

The Web design company are very flexible and are going way beyond what I expected………..they are helping me as part of the package to message out the change of business name (re-branding) that I have undertaken….
They put up a holding page about an hour ago for me….. www.luanireland.com

I tried a few different way to get a good web site up ………hopefully this time things will work………….I hoping that I will have a working site in about 10/15 working days

Good luck with yours

PS: Anyone want to buy an un-registered copy of FrontPage

There was a thread a few days ago (which I can't locate) about the free domain and web site offered by Microsoft on their OfficeLive.com site. You might want to look into that.

I did mine that way and it was very easy to set up.

Steve,
I do my own website http://www.dancinbaer.com, pay about $100/ yr for hosting.

As Joel points out give http://www.officelive.com a try, it's free. Inspite of having my other website, I signed up and created http://www.mainstreetframing.com. Nothing fancy, it was easy, I think it gets the point across and the price was right. Even up loading pictures was pretty much a no brainer.

my site cost was $800 and included everything you see on it (several pages )
included the photog and everything else .i had to do zilch.
