I used to have a little rectangular weather widget on my desktop, only slightly larger than the other icons. It seems to have vanished. I do not recall where it came from and I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Do you have one to recommend?

The old one could be set to any location and when clicked on, took me to a website with more detailed stuff like doppler radar and maps and stuff.

Try a Google search for a suitable option there are many options available. ..

If you do a search for "weather desktop widget" you will find a ton of them. What you can use will depend on what version of windows you are running.

If you are still running XP your choices may be limited. Most are available for W7 or W8.

I have already done a search (Ixquick, TYVM) for "Windows 7 desktop weather widgets" and found too many so I thought I'd ask if anyone has one that they like.....

And yes, the Evil Empire still phones me at least once a day plus I receive mail from them - real USPS mail!!!

If you have W7 you probably won't go wrong with the ones from the Weather Channel or Accu-Weather.

Here are a bunch. http://win7gadgets.com/weather/

I would try the Weather Channel one first. They are easy to add/delete so maybe try a bunch and keep the one you like best.

BTW, the reason you might not get much other advice here is the a Weather App is about the first thing that most of us put on our smartphones so we don't have any need for a desktop weather gadget.

Hello Mar.......................the 21st century is calling......................(just kidding) ;)

I have weather apps on my Note II phone and both tablets (Samung Note 8.0 and Tab 10.1)

I know, I know.

But for practical purposes, I divide my waking hours equally between two different countries and for me to have a smart phone that would function in both would cost a small fortune. I don't have a small fortune.

Plus I would be on Facebook 24 hours a day instead of 14. It would be a total disaster - I'd never get anything done. I am such an addict.

No one has any plans that work cross border? That sux.

Didn't think of that. Figured you were just being Canadian (or a luddite) :o

Even the dumb phone I have only works in the states.

Canadians only have two or three cell phone companies and they pay the highest rates on the planet. And it would cost megabucks to buy a US phone that would work in Canada too.

Well, I am gonna try a system restore and see if I can return to my old widget. I have downloaded two different ones so far and just can't get them to show up on the desktop.

Rowlbazzle.

Oh for crying out loud. Was afraid to restore the system because it would mess with the last "critical update" from Windoze, so I restarted the computer and now the little weather thing is back - on the desktop - turns out it is from MSN. Who knew?

Of course the graphics have disappeared, all I see now is the city and the temperature.

I give up.

I find that very hard to believe that there is not a phone plan to work across country boundaries. .

Even in little old ireland there is a plan for north / south ... ie south is the Republic of Ireland ...North is the UK. .

There are 28 countries in the EU with many borders.....with all sorts of tariff plans for people who live in one country and work in another. ..

It appears that Verizon has a partial answer with their Nationwide Plus Canada plans. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...nFirst&action=viewPlanList&catId=930&zipRdr=y

Partial because it appears that the data plans are US only. I couldn't get the data plan page to come up so any data in Canada might be roaming. If Mar has WiFi at home she could get around that for the data for at home use.
