It has been discussed on the Grumble and in WCAF classes the issues having to do with coupons and discounts. It has been mentioned that if a customer has a job that was placed before the coupon came out that we as retailers should still accept the coupon rather then to upset our customer.

It is one week till the 2011 WCAF show and conference. Today in the mail arrived my January PFM magazine. On page 59 there are a series of coupons for discounts off of classes at the show. Of course there is a disclaimer on the bottom that these coupons are not valid for classes that are previously registered for. Again it is now one week before the show and to the point that anyone planing on attending the show will have registered for classes.

I have not contacted PFM about this as it is Saturday evening, but I find it odd they they seem to be doing what the people that write and teach for them suggest not doing. I also think it is folly to run coupons in a magazine that does not arrive till 1 week before the show and in many cases won't arrive till after people have already left for the show.

I am not terribly upset by this as I feel that the education is often worth much more then the cost, but just like the next guy I would love to have gotten 50% off of my classes.

But the theory is, you didn't need the coupon to make your purchase. You were going to buy anyway. The coupon is to get the price conscious and undecideds to come in.

Has anyone tried buying something at the grocery store, hanging on to the receipt, and then going back in with a coupon to get a partial refund?

I agree, it's frustrating. It forces you to play a game of chicken -- you hold back on purchasing because you think there might be a discount later, but you run the risk of being shut out of a popular class. So essentially, you are paying a premium for the certainty of getting the classes you want.

But customers did this with me all the time when we were running coupons. Of course the difference between this and the grocery, is that I have not received the product yet.

I feel your pain Dave. I bought two tickets to Which One is Pink on Friday morning only to receive an e-mail telling last night me that because my room reservation was in the show room block, two free tickets were waiting for me at the box office- and the Hilton says the tickets I purchased are non refundable........
