I just had a customer call me and say she has a large plastic frame with art work in it leaning up against the wall, she just realized the plastic frame is warped and wants to bring it in to me to fix it. Is it possible to do that? If so how?

I would run sceaming away from that job. NO way would I touch it unless she wanted a new frame. :popc:

You probably can't fix the bend, but if you could, it probably would happen again under the same stress. Better, you can replace it with a wooden frame that is more rigid.

Never seen it happen, but I have seen the effects of heat on a plastic frame. New frame, for sure.

I agree with Jim...sell her a new wood frame if possible!

If the customer is really stuck on that frame you could try adding 3/8" x 1" or wider cleats on the back of all side of the frame. I've used PVA glue and staples to add them on thin plastic frames to add rigidity so it might work on this one.

You can easily fix this by replacing the carp plastic frame with a nice new wood one. :P

Plastic mouldings are very easy to work with. They warp very easily if they aren't strengthened, they don't have the natural strength that wood has. That said, it's much easier to correct that warped wood, because it doesn't have 'memory'. Well, I'm speaking from my experience over the years.

They are flexible and I'm guessing it should be reasonably straight forward to correct the problem. Using an appropriate backing board to strengthen it should suffice.

I agree with everyone, I first told her I don't think its possible with out replacing it with a new one but she insisted me finding out more info...lol. She doesn't want to spend the money on a new wood frame. Thanks everyone.

Very simple 2 step process. Throw the plastic carp in the nearest dumpster and place the contents into a genuine wooden frame. I do it all of the time and have had a 100% success rate.
