Folks,

Here's hoping someone can suggest a solution for my problem.

I've got an art piece that was painted on a ragmat that was glued to a piece of foam core. The piece is about 16x20. It's developed a slight arc going the long way (think flat rainbow). I've tried weighing it down to flatten it out, but it keeps springing right back.

Can anyone suggest a way to flatten this sucker out?

Thank you!

PS: it's going into a sink mount.

You could attempt to counter mount something equally thick as the ragmat on the front onto the back. Use something like Frank's or gel medium, dry under weights for a couple of days. That should counteract the pull and re-balance the thing to flatness.

I used to paint on foamcore panels (acrylic) to be used for backdrops at theme parties. Once the paint dried, the foamcore would warped just like you described. To fix this, I lightly sprayed a water mist on the back & applied weights to dry overnight (art side down).

warped painting cont...

I decided to try Lisa's approach first since it's less invasive. After two treatments, about 80% of the warping has been eliminated. I'm letting the painting rest for a day or so to see if it springs back. If it doesn't spring back, I'll give it one more treatment (see if I can improve it a bit more) and then fit it.

Thanks for the assist!

-Tom
