I have a customer with a medal she thinks is from her father during WWI - it is described as follows:

Front bar - France
Medal - looks like a Goddes with wings and a sword and shield

Back: The Great War for Civilization
Lists the following countries:

France, Italy, Serbia, Japan, Russia,Greece, Great Britain, Belgium, Brazil, Portugal, Rumania, china

The ribbon is the color of a rainbow

Any idea on what sigificance this medal has or if it has a special meaning. All I know is that the gentleman flew in WWI.

Any help is appreciated

What you have is very likely a WW 1 Victory Medal. The catalog I have shows a picture of the front and the ribbon but not the back. This catalog is put out by "Medals of America" 114 Southchase Blvd. Fountain Inn, SC 29644
Phone no. is 800-308-0849

I should point out that the Victory Medal is given to all the men and women who served in the military at that time. I was in WWll and have the Victory Medal from that time along with several others. You didn't have to do anything special to get it other than being there.

Bernie you don't need to be so humble. You didn't need to do anything EXTRA ORDINARY. However what all of you did ( in both WWI and WWII )was indeed SPECIAL.IMHO

I second Buddys humble opinion. I've had the pleasure of framing many medals for our veterans of WWII but I don't believe I've seen WWI medals.

Thanks!! I also found information on the www.nationalarchives.com website. They showed a photo, etc. I have a pilots cap and photos and this medal from a customers father when he served in WWI. The shame, is that she knew nothing about his service or what the medal was for (i.e. the research)

thanks for the help
