Question vnails softwood and hardwood

yes, Pistorius brand v-nails were universal nails, packaged differently, but that was the only difference.

The edge on hard v-nails might be ground to a sharper point and harder to stack.

The edge of hard v-nails are not sharp at all. If they were, they would split the moulding. V-nails for softwood are sharp. I use "medium" v-nails for both.

The softwood v-nails are for use in very soft woods like Basswood. I use the medium/hard nails in all of my frames even though very soft woods are used for the hand finished frames. In Basswood the hard v-nails do not have the most desired result but still O.K. All of the other soft woods are just fine. Don't buy Pulling Power or Power Twist v-nails because they do nothing that you can't do properly aligning the miter before nailing. I also don't like hearing them crunch through my head blocks which cost $70 each.

I am new to this underpinner stuff ... so what are the head blocks? I thought you just had to replace the hammer once in awhile ... and do you play the guitar?

The head blocks depend on the make and model of the v-nailer. I have the ITW/AMP VN 42 and it uses different size head blocks for each v-nail size. They don't wear out easily but are made from aluminum and the power nails have a ridge in the middle that rubs against the aluminum.

The story behind my guitar avatar is as follows. My store is right across the street from what opened as Hard Rock Park. Rock & Roll theme park which was originally built using $400 Million of which $350 Million were bonds from Deutche Bank. The park opened and tanked in 4 months time and DB wrote off the $350 Million bonds as a loss. It was later sold in a bankruptcy for $25 Million.

The second park was Freestyle Music Park. My wife and I were the first wedding ever at the park. Freestyle lasted one season and then went under. The whole deal is tied up in court several ways but the guitar still stands.

I knew that Hard Rock was going to tank since their bonds were trading at default levels when they opened. I made a point of photographing every inch of the park so I could sell them and have been doing so for some time now. I have things like the first ever roller coaster ride, the Hard Rock Park sign being put in place with a crane, that sign coming down, the Freestyle Park sign being erected, etc.

You are a help for all the grumblers who need help ... thanks Jeff ...
