I haven't adjusted the pressure on my VN42 in like, forever. If it ain't broke..................

Today I was joining some extremely dense oak with 15mm vnails and the pressure of 60 psi wasn't sufficient so I go to up the pressure.

I pulled the knob out as usual before turning but it wouldn't turn. Seems like it is frozen. Complicating this was the nut holding the regular on was a little loose and when I tried to turn the knob, the entire regulator would rotate.

I tried holding the nut with a wrench (at about 1 3/8" it is bigger than any wrench I have) and turning the knob with another wrench. All I succeeded in doing was breaking the knob. Not wanting to mess with it further, I joined the frame with 10mm nails rather than the 15mm I wanted.

Sounds like I need to replace the regulator but before I do that (the regulator probably ain't cheap), I wanted to see in any of you have any suggestions.

I agree with your diagnosis! :)

$43 is what I paid last year for the new regulator. I needed it next day and UPS charged $48 for next day delivery.

That's a relief. With others reporting a vnail guide head going for $60 or so, I was worrying about how much this was going to cost. $43 is fine.

One question. How hard was it to replace the regulator? A quick look at the back showed some connectors that didn't look easy to take off/replace. Any special tools required?

It takes about 15 minutes including time to clear access to it since my VN42 is inset in the table that supports my frames. No special tools or skills required.
