I just set up my used underpinner, and seems to work OK, but after firing nails, on release, it makes a loud, short, almost "siren" sound?
Any ideas? How about lubrication?
The noise seems to only happen when pressure is set between 70-80 PSI.
Thanks.

There are 3 control valves in a stack underneath the unit.
These control valves have silencers on them. They are small plastic blue "mufflers" on the control valves.
Possibly one of them is bad or missing?
I am just guessing but I am very familiar with these vnailers and have repaired them.
The only problem I've ever had is leaking seals which are easily replaceable.
Contact www.itwamp.com and talk to their tech dept.
The silencers are part #756700003 - $3.74 each if that's the problem.
You can download the manual and parts schematic from the website.
Keep the air pressure to the minimum that you need to fire. It's easier on the seals.

For lubrication you need to put a couple of drops of oil in the air fitting inlet once a week or so.
They recommend silicone oil for that unit.
Check with ITW (Fletcher now)

Thanks Neil.
I'm just getting familiar with this machine.
I just realized there is a "brake' on the in feed postioning clamp.
I also see 2 additional pressure gauges under the machine? Any ideas what they do?
Thanks.

Those are pressure regulators for components on the machine.
One is the regulator for the piston that pushes the vnails forward in the loading tray.
I think that one should be between 2 and 3. It goes to 7 I believe.
I don't have my machine where I'm at now so I'm going from memory.
There are 3 regulators. The main one which should be in the 40 - 70 range and the 2 underneath which should be set much lower, 2-3. You shouldn't have to mess with the ones underneath unless someone else changed them.
Phil was the ITW tech support person who has helped me in the past and he will know the pressure settings (if he's still with ITW since Fletcher took them over)
Let us know if you figure it out and what the problem was.

Thanks for the info. I will follow up on Wednesday. Not at the machine now.
Just a couple operating type questions.
-Do you use the front clamp. I worked with an old VN2 and never used the clamp, but do on the VN42 (where I work part time).
-Also, my VN2+1 only came with the 10mm head. Some operators I work with on the VN42 use 7mm nails with 10mm head? Doesn't seem to be a problem? Anyone else do this?

I've got 7mm - 10mm - 12 mm and 15 mm heads.
Those heads aren't cheap, they're about $60 each.
I always have used the right size head for the vnail.

I join many frames in a vise first, especially the elaborate, expensive ones. I use 8 vises at a time.
Then I vnail after so I don't use the front clamp.
If I'm joining in the vnailer, then I use the front clamp.
