PPFA and the Chapter Relations Committee are excited to introduce the Vivian C. Kistler MCPF Scholarship Program, created to honor the accomplishments and memory of Vivian Kistler.

The scholarship program provides financial assistance to PPFA members wishing to take the MPCF examination. Under the program, as many as two individuals will be selected each year to receive a scholarship for a free sitting for the MCPF examination and a stipend of as much as $500 to offset framing and travel expenses. Each scholarship has an estimated value of $900.

Applications for the very first MCPF Scholarship must be received no later than June 1, 2011 to be considered for scholarships awarded during PPFA 2011. An application can be downloaded from the MPCF page on http://www.ppfa.com/. Please call 800-762-9287, ext. 181, or email Heather Kelso at hkelso@pmai.org if you have any questions.

By the way this was made possible by PPFA & Donations from some of the State Chapters.
It would be nice to mention them by Chapter.

Actually it was supported wholeheartedly by all but two chapters. Those two chapters that are not contributing this first year will contribute to and support it afterwards.

Rather than list all the chapters who contributed it would be easier to list those that didn't. I don't want to cast a cloud over what is meant to honor someone who was a mentor and friend to many by doing that. I'm sure Vivian would greatly appreciate what so many are doing to honor her.

I am so happy to read this.

Vivian made a huge contribution to our industry, not just in USA but also overseas.

She was so well liked, and I had the opportunity to chat with her in such places as Italy, England and Australia.

She was unique. So well known and liked by framers in so many countries. Probably because she "taught" and IMHO most framers, crave knowledge and experience, and she was always so happy to pass on all hers.

She would have been chuffed to know there is now a V.K. scholarship:thumbsup:

Thank you David, for your work in establishing this PPFA benefit.

Just as Vivian helped so many framers throughout her long career as a framer, teacher, writer, and publisher, the Vivian Kistler Scholarship program will help to advance the learning and skills of future framers.

This is a good and appropriate memorial. Viva la Vivian.

Taking the MCPF is a great learning experience. The test isn't to prove that you "know it all." You learn new techniques and are critiqued to make sure that you are doing things in an acceptable way. It opened me up to new ways of framing and introduced me to framers from all over. I have great resources to call upon now when I have a question.

It's great to have an MCPF scholarship to honor Vivian. Still even if you don't win the scholarship or even pass , the process of taking the exam is very worthwhile.

If ever there was a person in our industry whose name was synonymous with picture framing education, it was Vivian's. She was devoted to it and gave endlessly of herself. It is wonderful to see others giving back in her name.

Shortly before it was officially announced Robin Gentry, the chair of the Chapter relations Committee, sent an email to Vivian's daughter Carli letting her know about the scholarship.

Carli was kind enough to allow us to share her response:

Hi Robin,

Words cannot express how absolutely perfect this is. All of her life, Mom was a huge promoter of education, and it was no secret how devoted she was to the PPFA. I know that she is smiling in heaven right now knowing that her name is on a scholarship that will help educate framers. From the bottom of my heart...thank you.

With deepest gratitude,
Carli

And let's bump this back up one more time.

I know how we framers all love to wait until the last minute, but we're just about into May now, and the deadline for application is June 1. The application includes a letter of recommendation from another PPFA member, so it's not something you would want to put off until the last minute.
