Does anyone have a way or a machine that cuts out vinyl letters? I have a great idea for a project I am doing for a special customer - I won't mention it to her unless I can find someone to do this - I need the phrase "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" in about 1" high fairy tale script.

It is for an antique mirror with great sentimental value so I do not want to suggest any permanent etching process. This will be temporary until the customer's daughter grows out of her princess stage and I will be no doubt repainting the ancestral frame back to shade of gold from the princess colors I will be painting it for now.

Not I, but if you can't find a grumbler with a vinyl printer there are a zillion places online that will do your lettering. Google "vinyl lettering for mirrors" or something like that and you will get "About 1,680,000 results (0.30 seconds)"

Here is one that has a 'Wizard' to help you do the design. http://doityourselflettering.com/create/

I have a machine that will cut any font. The 8000 miles distance may be a difficulty!
Blackiris has one. She may be closer!

The KNK Zing is much better machine than my Silhouette! It's wider and will cut continuous lengths. Check it out http://knkusa.com/
They're as cheap as chips!
Come to the Brisbane Framing Industry Meeting on 29th Feb, to find out what else can be done in framing with these machines!

We do...we had a sign shop for 15 years, I can't function without a vinyl cutter within my reach, lol. I have some fairy tale colors in stock, too.

PM, call, or email me tomorrow (Friday) if you want, I sould be able to help you.

Don't forget to show us the results!!

Mar......... get yourself a Cricut! Best little machines EVER!!!!!!!! :D

Cricut is a great machine, but it has a limitation. They only cut what's on the cartridges that you have to buy separately. Other machines will cut any font on the computer.

Yah........b ut it doesnt JUST cut lettering..... it cuts everything!
little people....... little swooshes... and you can design your own and upload to the cricut.

Yep, same with Silhouette and Zing. Design your own or convert clipart to cut.

Mar, you have a professional, with professional equipment offering you a professional service where you can expect a professional look to your lettering. You can support small time professionals looking to maintain and promote their businesses, or you can bypass the professional and buy hobby equipment, learn as you go and do it yourself.

Do you really want to bypass quality for a few dollars in savings? If your customers like the look of the lettering then you can be a middleman :) The $300 the Cricut'll cost you you could spend on that heater that Larry showed you in another thread :)

The cricut is more than just lettering .. and it is quality. I USE IT IN MY PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS TOO.
Best $300 I ever spent.

Bob,
If you are under the impression that these machines do not provide 'professional' or 'quality' lettering, you may be under a false impression. I've compared the quality of the output from my Silhouette to the signage made by a sign shop, opposite me and there is no difference!

Framers have had to learn matcutting machines, machines that cut mitres, glass cutters and frame joining equipment and those services are provided by suppliers and other framers, but most of us do those processes ourselves. Framers are also venturing into wide format printers rather than using providers for that service. I don't see that die cutting equipment is any different?

Mary and I are talking about this already and me buying a Cricut is wayyyyyy down my list of things to ever buy - sure they are cool but first I had to pay the dentist and the optician and the.....

I'm with Mar.... I'd rather order a bang up job from a true professional like Maja...

who already has all the equipment and supplies.
