Good morning to you all. I am in GREAT NEED of your expertise!!!!!!!!!!!! I have an oversize canvas, 30 x 80. Unfortunately, you have probably heard this story before, the canvas was cut at the edges to a merely 3/4" extra material outside of the image itself. How in the world can I stretch this on stretch boards, ? Is there someother way ...please advise, and know how much I appreciate your time and advise in this matter. thank you, sue

You will have to wrap the image around the stretcher. I did a huge wrap/frame last year 9'x5'. Good luck!

Buy the bars from Richeson or use a turn buckle system in the corners. Staple it taught and expand the bars until it is tight.

You should be OK if the canvas good quality and fairly heavy duty, that is not a imported bedsheet specimen.

You really need bars with expandable corners - not a rigid ones. Few cross braces would be desirable.

You don't need to 'stretch' the canvas when you attach it to the bars. You just have to make sure you don't get waves or ripples. Once it on you can use to corner wedges to impart a slight tension - just enough so the surface is flat and doesn't flap about.
Normally I don't use pliers, but if the margin is only 3/4" I would, if only to save sore fingers. Once you have it on the bars and before you knock any wedges in, I would put an additional staple inbetween the ones you have already done to compensate for not being able to wrap it right round the back of the bars.

Jack Richeson can help

Hi...it's Kim with Jack Richeson. I would be happy to guide you through this. And, as mentioned above, a possible hand stretching and use of our BEST Keys would give you the correct tension needed. We also could use our cross brace brackets which helps with keeping the frame square and adjusting the tension of the canvas. Give me a call...I'm happy to help!
