Hello Everyone.

I have a piece that is presenting a challenge. I am looking for advice on framing a Venetian mask.

The mask is heavier down towards the nose, which causes the feathers to stick straight up (measuring about 7" in height). The customer asked if it could be tilted back a little so that the feathers on the top part of the mask are a more parallel to the board and glass. My customer also wants postcards scattered around the mask.

Do you guys have any suggestions on a good way to support the mask? I am afraid that unless I have something underneath of the mask's nose to support it, it won't stay in place.

Thank you.
Linda

I did a couple of Venetian Masks, and I ended up using attach-ez to secure the masks in place. Around the edges of the mask where it actually touched the matboard, there was a ridge of fabric, and I was able to put the attach-ez tags through that ridge. Worked beautifully, and took all of 1 minute.

I did one too last year. I made slits and used the ribbon as well.

The one I did also had a piece of fabric glued to it that the seller hung on a peg. I put a little thread through that and also used that as an attachment point.

How heavy is it? Brass rods would be the ultimate I assume

My first attempt to do photos here, so may not work etc., but yes, brass rods, bent and soldered as necessary can be used to make a lightweight, sturdy mounts.

oh, of course it didn't work...someday I'll figure it out...

I did a scaramouche once. I attached linen strips with beva to the inside and made pass-through slits in the platform. Very strong; very simple.

Fabulous... I'm going to have that song in my head for the rest of the night. Wanders off, softly singing "(Oh mama mia, mama mia) Mama Mia, let me go."
