It was recently brought to my attention that Nickell Moulding's vendor info was not in FrameReady. I am taking the steps to correct that and would like to know which other POS programs, besides FrameReady and Lifesaver, you think we need to contact.

I appreciate any feedback you can give me!

You can also reach me by email - kelly@nickellmoulding.com

I use Wizard's Retail Management pos.

This actually brings up another issue: I wrote my own POS system and chasing down vendor info is sometimes an exercise in frustration. Larson-Juhl is great; they have their pricing available as an Excel spreadsheet right on their customer site. Other vendors will send me Excel pricing if I find the right person and ask them nicely. One who shall remain nameless doesn't seem to know the difference between PDF and Excel and insists on sending me pricing info in PDF format. I finally had to break down and get a program to extract the text from the PDF and convert it to Excel.

The point of the matter is: is it such a problem to make pricing info available in machine-readable format for those of us who are not POS vendors? Most vendors have customer-only sections on their websites; why can't Excel pricing info be made available there?

We are working to accommodate all of our customers and new customers. The owner, Mr. Nickell, appreciates all feedback.

I have a full list of POS vendors at www.getthepictureframing.com/gfaq/ Nearly all of them will accept a database (or even a spreadsheet) file, and will post them for free within their software. Most of them will distribute the updates to their customers several times per week, if not daily. There is only one I know of that charges vendors for this service (I believe $500 per year). There are also some that do not track price changes, and require manual entry by the user. The top 6 products do handle pricing.

Note that many of the vendors listed are international, and probably won't be in your service area. This forum has been doing a tech survey for the past ten years to see which POS, CMC, Visualization, and tech services shops use. A list of vendors used by forum members in this market can be viewed at the above link, under "Poll Results".

Best regards,
Mike

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and help. Especially for that website!

Sorry, can't find poll results. This vendors as in moulding vendors? Or are you talking about software vendors?

I'd go a step further and say how beneficial and amazing it would be for the entire industry to standardize on a data exchange format.

They've lowered it to $200. At least for us (max 2 updates per year). Maybe it's because I complained, and others pay more  .

Well so far our info is now on Lifesaver. Waiting for replies from the others. :)

Kelly - Good move.... Don't wait too long to make sure the other three contact you...definitely get yourself into their database and each time you make an update, deletion, addition, whatever, you should send that information to their contact person.

We get a weekly email reminder of any vendor who has made changes from our POS company and when logged into their website this is what we can see...

I've received a confirmation from another one. Normally we only update our prices once a year, so you won't see that many updates from us. Plus we've just completed adding our new items and removing the discontinued. So what's in there now should be good until Late February, early March.

Thanks for taking this on, Kelly. I've been after Nickell for several years to do this. It will make this framer's life much easier and I am more likely to reach for your samples now.

I'm going to hold you to that Dave!

And don't hesitate to bring anything to my attention when it comes to my company or our product. We appreciate feedback and I try to do all I can to accomodate everyone!

Hi Kelly,
Thank you for adding us to your list. We look forward to receiving your information.

Steve,
A standardized format from vendors would be ideal! We would like to see a group category added to the format to identify if a frame is: wood, metal, plastic, liner, fillet, etc. Since we never see the actual samples, we must rely on the description to give some clue. The average description, (Eg. Harvest), doesn't tell you what type of frame it is. This is important since markups on metals and woods are usually different. Even fillets are iffy with descriptions of: fillet, filet, flt, fill, etc.

Carol
