A few questions about having vending machines in the frame shop.

1.Do you have any vending machines in your shop like maybe a gumball machine or candy machine?

2.How much of a percent does the owner of the machine pay you?

3. How much can it take in in a month?

4. Is it even worth having it in the shop?

Just curious. Goyo.

I just can't imagine having a vending machine in a frame shop. I'm sure I wouldn't do it because I wouldn't want customers to have food or drink in the shop except on a special occasion.

goyo,

I work alone and I look on vending machines like I look on tourists. They are simply a distraction when somebody sees the machine sitting there and comes in just to buy a candy bar. Very few tourists will buy, they want to browse. And that means that you have to drop what you are doing and stand there behind the customer counter in case they need some help or have a question. Mostly you stand there and stare at them hoping they will leave so you can get back to work.

With vending machines, you have the wrappers that many people don't have the common sense to put in that trash container sitting directly alongside the machine. And then there are those who come in chewing gum and they stick it under the edge of the customer counter when you aren't looking. I had that happen at my old location sometime in the past ........... twice. I found 2 petrified gobs of chewing gum stuck under there when we tore the top off to move it.

My feeling is, if the customer wants framing, they came to the right place. If they want a gum ball they need to hit the nearest Walley World and browse their candy section.

We have an antiue vending machine that dispenses handfuls of M&Ms. The machine gives a pretty good handful for a nickel, and all the money goes to the Washington County Animal Shelter. They are our shop charity, and not only do they get nickels but they also get the $$ when we do a little something for a customer, like put a wire on a piece of their framed art, trim up a piece of paper... you know, little things. Rather than give something away (and live in fear that they will bring in the closet full of similar jobs that they also will expect for free) I just say, "Whatever you ant to give to the Animal Shelter." I get usually $2-3, an occasional $5 and once a $20. I take about $100 over to the shelter twice a year. They think I am a hero, the customer thinks we are a socially conscious shop, and it gives me a great line when charities are looking for a cash donation. "I'm sorry. Our store charity this year is the animal shelter." We give stuff (never turning away anyone with the guts to come in and ask), but never cash.

Ellen, your a class act!

Vending machine in my shop? Not!

If Less' business flies, my clients can have all the free candy, cookies, coffee, and condoms they want.

??? UnLess of course you have one of those retro gas station frame shops. But, like Ellen, I would likely give the money to charity --- ???? Kathy :D

Hmmm? I can see it now, a free fill up with every frame job. I'll send Less out on those cold days.

Maybe Charles can guest DJ on Friday nights. ??? Yea, we could turn it into a drive-in and serve possum.

Omar, have that chewing gum DNA tested at 'The Firm'. I suspect it'll match up with a certain framer in Appleton.
Less, I appreciate the offer to DJ. I'd LOVE to do it! But y'all got the wrong idea about possum. I doubt many G'ers have ever eaten the greasy, slimey, grey possum meat. Been there, done that. I'll stick with good ol' pork, beef an' chicken.

Goyo, when I had my pinball company, we paid the location 50% of the gross. I imagine it would be less with vending machines, but I'm not sure. If you look in the classifieds under business opportunities, there are always vending routs for sale. Call one of those like your interested in buying, and ask what the take usually is.

Less, I do believe you are making fun of me...............that is okay. I certainly have claimed the title of "Grumbler who couldn't possibly be in a worse financial situation". So, yes my pride is dipped to an all time low and I will gladly accept your charitable contribution. Please just indicate on these gumball machines that the charity is www.emibubsfundsforherfuture.com. I look forward to getting the checks in the mail and thank you for your continued support!
