I am getting 'Error reading Config.ini (62) when I open Future Mat Designer. When I click ok, program opens and everything is in Italian and I can't do anything. Anyone have this issue before and know how to fix it? Was literally just using it 10 minutes ago with no issues... and now am stuck. Thanks for any help!

did you recently change to a different antivirus? It's possible that the a/v is holding the config.ini hostage as the program is trying to read it. Either that or the config.ini (settings) file is simply corrupted. If it was me, I'd first rename the config.ini file to config.old and then restore config.ini from my most recent backup. (making a backup/rename of the old one is good, in case it has any customization settings that you will want) I bet that would probably fix it. I don't have a Valiani, though. Tech support should be able to assist, and is a good route to go..

Don't know this program but I've had similar happen with other things. The .ini file is written to when the
program closed to save settings. If you rename it and restart the prog it should open with the default settings
and write a new .ini file when you shut it down. Bit of a pain as you have to manually restore your settings. And
then it might do the same when you open the prog again. FWIW one prog that does this regularly with me only does it
when you close the prog without saving what you were doing.

Since you're having trouble with the original FMD software, you might want to consider taking this opportunity to upgrade to the newer V Studio software, which is much more user-friendly and versatile than FMD. It has been available for several years and has been trouble-free all along. Also, you can easily convert your FMD cutting files to work with V Studio.

Thanks all for the information. I called Chuck and he was able to fix the issue. Will be looking into the new V Studio once I get through the Christmas Season.

What was the issue? For future reference for others that might have the same problem.

I have no idea what ended up being the problem. He took over the computer and was working on it for over an hour and a half. He did mention that he has never seen this program run off of Windows 10... and that is what the computer is running on. I currently have 43 frame ups on the board... so right now is definitely a bad time to switch to a new program!

OK, now when someone see this and has a similar problem they will know the best thing to do right away is:

Better Call Chuck.

Doesn't have quite the same ring to it, does it. :(

I have a similar issue. My Valiani was working fine until yesterday.
It just says Mirrioring: machine serial number not available.
Anyone have any idea how to fix it?
Tried usb wire replacement already.

Welcome to the G!

I'm assuming that error is after you click the Vstudio software, and not when the computer is initially turned on? (before windows loads)

On some older CMCs, there is a battery that goes and has to be replaced.

Is the USB dongle plugged in? That is the security device where it verifies the serial # and software. Unplugging that and putting it back in to the same port may re initialize, if the issue isn't a dead battery.

Thank you for the reply. I actually do not know how to change the battery. Is there an instruction manual somewhere?
I have plugged abd unplugged usb wire and even bought a new one.
The error message happens after I click "send to cut"
Thanks Mike!

Thanks for clarifying. I believe the battery on the older models was on one of the boards. There are at least 3 old discussions on the forum archives about the specific error message those folks received, and the type of battery to order. It may or may not be the same situation.

Another possibility is that the controller is just having a bad day. If so, you can do a reset by cycling the power 3 times on JUST the driver pack/controller box. (not the computer)

Hi Mike. Thank you so much. I bought this machine second hand. It is a Valiani Future Supreme.
It worked fine for over 6 months.
The company didn't give me an instruction manual.
Is there a thread where I can find on how to reset?
Thank you !

Resetting is 3 cycles of the power switch on the external controller box.

The issue of forgetting the serial # is usually the CR2450N battery. I believe it lives on a board, inside the controller box.

Some additional resources you can read before calling tech support. It sounds like you need a battery, based on the age of the machine.

Hi Mike, I was able to locate and replace the battery 2450N.
The only thing is that a new error message shows up now. : it is necessary to set Mirrioring mode using Valiani Settings.
Do you have any opinion on this?
I'm at a loss for words.

I don't know what that means. Could it just be a design issue with that particular set of instructions? Did you try a new clean job with a simple single opening, to make sure that isn't the issue?

No longer getting a serial # error? I believe people who had that had to call Valiani to have a serial # re generated, or found it on the paperwork. If that error went away, nevermind :)

I tried everything. The only thing that doesn't make sense is everything works perfectly until I click "send to cut"
Thanks for replying!

When I click send to cut, the cut window closes by itself, but the software (V studio is still running).
Only the send to cut pop up window closes

If you get a chance, snap a picture of that error for me. Is this the original "Future" software, or the current flavor "Vstudio"?

I have never used Future.

Does it show that you are connected to the controller?

I'm assuming that you also confirmed that the red "kill switch" hasn't been tripped.

I scanned several support forums for you, including this one, and could not find any mention of a "Mirrioring mode" error message

Here is the picture Mike. I appreciate your help so much. After exchanging the battery and resetting the machine by turning the control box on and off 3 times. This is the new message I get when I "send to cut"

If you didn't see any reference to that setting in the configuration/settings menu, I don't really know what else it could be.

You may have to contact Valiani Italy or Crescent to know what that means.

If anyone reading this has more info, or has seen this message before, please jump in.

Mike

I assume you have the installation disc. Uninstall then reinstall the programme and if that doesn’t work then maybe pay the distributor for some tech support, they could sort it remotely with team viewer
It may also be an idea to bite the bullet and upgrade to V studio, it blows the outdated and unsupported FMD away.

Error reading file message, possibly visual basic error 62 (input past end of file)

It could mean that the file is corrupted on the computer, or that two instances of the software are trying to access it at the same time.

Did you try rebooting the machine to try again?

Was anything new done recently, such as a new antivirus program or an upgrade to windows 11?

Other than restoring that one file from your backup, this may be a case where you have to contact Valiani technical support directly for assistance.

yes I did rebooting the machine and try again but unfortunately it doesn't work. nothing have been done recently. the machine just works fine until the message appears yesterday. thank you so much for your reply really appreciate it.

I would rename that file (so you can put it back, if it does not work) and then restore (just) the same file from last night/last week's backup. That may or may not fix the issue, but worth a try.

I don't think Crescent, who handles support in USA, supports the FMD software; but Valiani in Italy may.

Future Mat Designer was retired in about 2012, when they came out with a new software product (VStudio). I believe FMD was only designed to work with Windows XP, 7, and Vista. VStudio will work on newer operating systems, including the current Windows 11.

If the computer is really old, it could be a good opportunity to replace it with a modern Windows 11 system, and upgrade to the VStudio product. You would have to check with Valiani for the price, and to see if your particular machine is compatible.

I realize that is a BIG change, but one that will keep you going in the future. It's worth considering, in any case :)

Mike
