I know NOTHING about this thing except what it's intended purpose is. A friend and I recently came into possession of this machine (owner died, heirs didn't want it). It looks to be in good shape, pump is there but not hooked up.
This a 220v version, if we power it up, plumb the pump etc, what do I look for to see if everything is working correctly? I realize that the platen should get hot, the pump should run etc, is there away to know that it is developing full vacuum?
I guess I want to know how to "check it out" so if we sell it, we know it works or doesn't work.
Opinions on value if it all works? Worth more parted out?
Please enlighten me if possible.
I did find an owners manual PDF to download and have that. Is Seal Products still in business?

Please enlighten me if possible.
TIA
Jim

It's an older machine, but if it works and it was free, you got quite a deal. If it doesn't work, you probably won't be able to get most of the parts.

There is a LED strip to the right of the On/Off toggle that will indicate relative vacuum. Sometimes it is necessary to put something (like a couple sheets of foam board) in the press for it to form a seal to pull the vacuum. If you are having trouble getting a vacuum, you may need to replace the foam gasket around the perimeter of the base. I have found that if you prop the lid open for a few days the gasket will rebound a bit and you will be able to get a vacuum, but it does mean the end of the gasket's life is near.
The heating elements can be checked with heat sensitive strips available from Bienfang (the new owner of Seal).
I have one of these machines that I bought in 1986-87. it still runs fine, though it could use a replacement foam gasket. Like Paul said, any major failure (heating element or thermostat) and it becomes a very expensive work surface, though it still functions as a cold vacuum press.

Value? Not much because of the lack of replacement parts. It could run for years or it could be permanently damaged on the truck ride to its new home.

I just sold one of these that I used for about 12 years. You can still get the foam seal and the rubber bladder and possibly other parts like the struts etc. from On-site Maintenance. The 220 plug is a little special as it has 4 prongs instead of 3. The unit has the 2 hots for the 220 plus a ground and a neutral because the pump is 110 and there is a 110 volt plug-in on the front of the press for a tacking iron. If it works it's worth about $1000.

Thanks for the thoughts folks, I got it hooked up today, and believe it or not, it appears to work perfectly. It heated up up just fine, pulled and held full vacuum, timer works, as well as the "done" signal.

Actually , I think I may have found a home for it already :D

I have come into possession of a VacuSeal 4366M-HS and I don't think the vacuum is working correctly. Anyone have a source for the gasket?
