What is your company policy on vacations and sick pay?

We give 1 week vacation the first year. From there it is up to me to give out this benny. I am in the process of writing a handbook to firm up policies and to lesson confusion.

Vacation 1 week years 1-5, 2-weeks thereafter
Sick pay: 1 day for every 3 months full time employment.

Vacation and sick days do not carry over. If they are not used in the year that they apply they are forfeited. No vacations are allowed from the day prior to Thanksgiving until after New Years.

Vacations and sick days are all based on the calendar year and prorated the first year based on hire date.

After 30 days we give 2 personal days (which are like floating holidays, and are in addition to our 8 paid holidays) and 3 sick days per year.

After 6 months service we give 1 week vacation

After 1-1/2 years service we give 2 weeks vacation

After 4-1/2 years service we give 3 weeks vacation :D

I must say that as we get more and more employees earning 3 weeks vacation I feel maybe we were a bit too generous  but it's kind of hard to take away something you've already given.

Any time not taken within the year is lost when new time is earned (unless we've made special arrangements ahead of time - like when we're really busy and don't want someone to take time off right now!)
