I have a dragon shaped jigsaw puzzle to frame for a customer and yesterday when I was using Fusion - I discovered the self-trimming attributes of this product. COOL!

Do you think it will work on a puzzle that has that little amount of depth to it or will the product stick around the edges and show....

Seems like a great solution! What do you think or have you experimented?

Thanks,

Roz

I've never had good luck with the "self trimming" aspects of Fusion 4000. When I remove the cover layer, I am left with the fuzzies surrounding the artwork which I then have to trim by hand with a knife.

I suspect that with something three dimensional like a jigsaw, that "self trimming" wouldn't work at all.

Hmmmm... If that won't work... what other technique would work to top mount this onto mat board?

Thanks,

Roz

I have used something called VacuMount (or something like that) to mount puzzles. It's a permanent mounting adhesive. Lay the puzzle face down on a piece of scrap something, matboard or foamcore, then roll the adhesive on the back of the puzzle. Place the board you want it mounted to on top of the puzzle then sandwiching them together flip the package over. Remove your scrap something then place release paper over the puzzle. Weight the whole package down over night and in the morning it will be successfully mounted. Larson Juhl carries the adhesive, I think it's item number 21201. Good luck.

Roz, The first thing you need to do is get Candy to come over and help with this. I understand she's a big fan of dry mounting puzzles.

I think you could use the Fusion 4000 if you stick it to the back of the puzzle with a tacking iron first. Use an X-acto knife to trim it to within an eighth of an inch from the puzzle edges. Flip it over and drymount it to the backing board.

Roz,

We do dozens and dozens of puzzles every year, and we use standard Seal Colormount tissue to mount these. We simple flip the puzzles upside down with matboard support. We then spot attach the tissue in a couple of places. With a sharp X-acto No.11 blade/knife, we trim the tissue just inside the outside perimeter of the design.

Turn this back over and mount in your press. Piece of Cake!

Sorry Kit, I see you essentially said the same thing...just using Fusion Vs. Colormount. They both work.

Regards,

John

No apologies necessary, John.

Just blame it on the Southern hemisphere. What with everything being upside down and backwards, it's easy to get confused.

John, Kit, Kit, John....

Thanks - I did this before I got back to the thread... and it worked GREAT!! Piece of cake...

And John, where in NZ are you!??!!! I spent some time there a number of years ago and LOVED it....

Any where near Christchurch, South Island!?

heheheheh

I just saw this with Kits comment. It gave me a good laugh......

I now dry mount all puzzles as soon as they come in. I never want to have to put another one together.

However, I must admit........my dear hubby and I are enjoying a good puzzle now and then.
