I recently purchased a converted Morso chopper that had been used in a Prints Plus shop. Apparently all of the choppers used in their shops were converted( the rail systems run vertically as opposed to horizontally).I have received a manual from Tech Mark for a standard chopper, but, would love to see something specificaly pertaining to one of these Prints Plus conversions. Any one out there have any ideas?
Thanks for your help,

This sounds like a dream...am I still sleeping...is that even possible and if so why would one do this?

I will try to post a pic or two tonite or tommorrow morning. I was told they were converted for space saving reasons. I believe there was approx. 40 of these shops out there, that is why I was hoping someone was familiar with them.
Thanks, Sammy

I saw one in use in a framing shop in New Jersey (Freehold I think it was anyway the place they used to have the horse racing track) a few years ago…….it worked well while I was looking the girl chopped about 5 frames and the mitre looked good……though I did not take a great lot of notice of how it worked as I did not have the roof height to use one of them….

If it is a Morso…..email Morso direct and ask them for their help…..they are very good at sorting problems with their second-hand equipment http://www.morso-guillotines.dk/

Good luck

That is GLORIOUS! How in the zarquing photon do you get the blade to go up and down? If I had a store where I hated all the employees I'd be looking to buy one for sure.

How many of you tilted your head so far to the left that you hit your shoulder?

It's obviously a space saver, just with some limitations. Every tool has pros and cons, and it is up to the buyer to decide what is best for them. I can see this vertical chopper being a viable option for some operations.

David, respectfully, we're framers. We're supposed to mock change and innovation. That's why we still use Masterpiece 500 presses, only 50% of us have POS software, and we still think paying by check is a pretty neat idea. And we LIKE it!

But where do you step down? Is that still the same...I guess it couldn't be right? So got to show a pic of that converted too, if available. It is too early again and it still seems like a bad dream. I noticed they added the hold down clamps so the wood would not slide out. That is a good solution. Like David said, the limitations are for one too ponder then decide which is best for them.

it's been a bad bad dream

Baer,
I had no idea!! Being a hobbyist artist/ framer that works out of my basement, I had no clue as to how a chopper worked, etc.So, when you wrote "How would you cut a mldg. over 36", I didnt know what you meant. Until yesterday! After installing sharp blades, I proceded to buy a couple of 10 ft. sticks !!! Hellooooo!? I need a 15 or 16 ft. ceiling to use this contraption. So right now I am looking for help to get this thing back to its original state. I did find a gentleman on The Grumble that worked for Prints Plus who was kind enough to email and let me know he would do some research on restoring it. If anyone else has any info , please let me know. If I dont switch it back, it will either be sold for what I have in it( 400.00), or hope the trash collectors will pick it up!! Thanks for your help.

SAM! DON'T SELL IT!

my wife says that if you get the tickets next fall, while she's at the game, I'd be more than happy to put it back the way it's supposed to be.... :D

I'm a football widower.

I'm sorry Jim, no offense but did you really pay good money for this? Was it just one of those deals one can't pass up?

Just curious.

Baer, Does that mean you are a Packer fan?!
If this thing wasnt welded as part of the conversion, it would already be taken apart.
Very iritated in Green Bay!!

Not sure what you did wrong there Jim. I went in and copied your URL and it brought me to your picture. I just recopied the properties and posted here and it seems to have worked.

From what I can tell you were posting the thumbnail of your picture. You need to click on the thumbnail and bring up the picture and use that as your URL. Plus, on MSN they have lots of gobbledy gook after "JPEG" and I always have to remove that before it will work. Hope this helps.

Jim,

does the Head unit go up and down, rather, is it hinged?

Does it work with the head in the typical configuration? If so then use it that way! Don't tilt it up, seems silly to try to save space by losing it!

Baer, if you cut a hole in the floor you could cut a leg longer than 36", and putting a hole inthe ceiling would let you get a 12' long stick into the machine to start working with it! I like my "regular" setup even if I do knock things over when I maneuver big sticks around the shop.
