FOR SALE - Used older model VacuSeal 4366 mounting press. I just listed this press on EBAY with a starting bid of $200 (no reserve), local pick-up only. I have had this unit for quite a number of years. Lately it has had problem with achieving maximum vacuum, it can only go up to 60%. The heating and other controls are working fine. If interested you can check out the pics and detailed descriptions by searching item#280206235905. Auction will end Sunday night 3/9/08.

Based on the plug, is this a 110v or 220v? Just want to make sure. Are you only willing to run this through eBay or sell outside of it?

rivermillart, I hope you get a buyer on EBay, and one who knows how to improve the weak vacuum.

Dave, I have a 4366M-HS similar to rivermillart's, 230 volts, single phase. Mine still has a strong vacuum. The only thing not perfect about it is that the timer has given up, so I'll include the egg timer we've been using for the past three years -- no big deal. This machine has been well maintained and it's squeeky clean inside, too. I guess you're about 6-8 hours from me by car, which would be better than packing/shipping such equipment. If you come for it, I'll buy dinner.

You can't have mine for $200, but if you can't fix the vacuum issue, or if you need more than one...

Sorry if I seemed to subvert you, rivermillart, but my ad was posted some time ago. You can find it several posts down in this section.

It's OK...I don't mind you posting before mine sold.

Your apology is disingenuous, to say the least. It doesn't matter that you had posted your ad recently or whenever. The fact that you tried to solicit one of my interested party and possibly a potential buyer to your own side is not an ethical thing to do.
To say that you don't mind I am posting before yours is sold is a self-delusional statement. Are you really think you are the framing God here? This board is full of people who think just because they post a lot they rule the space. Give me a break.
Put your press on Ebay, let the market decide and stop the bs.

Well, rivermillart, you've got a point. I do want to be ethical. Here's the best I can do:

Dave, I hereby retract my offer in this thread to sell my vacuum press. I encourage you to buy rivermillart's on EBay, which is less expensive than mine, anyway.

rivermillart,

Jim did not designate himself "Picture Framing God". This forum designated him as such after his 5000th post - most of which were helpful and generous to fellow framers. This is a pretty open place and you are welcome to join in. If you look around in this section of the Grumble, you will find that additional offers in sales threads are pretty common and Jim's post doesn't really warrant an "ethics" complaint around here.

rivermillart,

Plus the fact that Dave has been around here for awhile as a Grumbler and IMO, Jim was simply pointing out to a friend that he might need to be aware that fixing a low vacuum problem might be harder to do than it sounds.

Others might think so as well, as I see that there are as yet no bids.

Pat, rivermillart sees the emperor has no clothes, and states the obvious. Jim did indeed highjack his thread and seek to undercut his sale. We know Jim is a wealth of information, but does believe most accolades thrown his way, which reflects in many of his posts. Those of us who have been around for a little while just try to overlook the personality flaws, simply because we appreciate his expertise more than we are annoyed by the ego. rivermillart will smooth out his honesty for tact the longer he stays. (Just an observation, and does not necessarily reflect the views of the PC.)

Deac, like I said, this is an easygoing place.

LOL. Sometimes the grumble makes me chuckle. To both parties. I would have been fair and ethical in my choice of who I bought from. I have seen Jim's prior post for a couple weeks now, so I knew both of them were out there for sale. My only quandary is how to transport said equipment in addition to, WHERE THE HECK WILL I PUT IT?. I just got rid of my truck recently, so I'm left to fitting things creatively in my VW Jetta. I am proud to say that I bought a twin sized mattress, headboard, foot board, and bed rails from IKEA and got them ALL (at the same time) in my Jetta. Woot! Thanks to both of you gentlemen. I will have to research this some more.

How hard would it be to fix a pump like that? I'm curious as to whether the pump would need to be replaced, or if the seal needs to be replaced. I just got home from a trip, and saw that there are 12 minutes left on the auction, so I will have to forgo the auction in this case. But I am still interested. I could easily have my brother in NYC rent a U-Haul to drive it down to me.

An update - I appreciate Jim's sincerity and ethical belief, didn't mean to ruffle some feathers here, also appreciate others' thoughtful comments. I am actually thankful that the press got no bid and didn't sell. It would have been a steal to let it go for $200. Having spoken to the Beinfang folks I just ordered brand new replacement foam strips, if that doesn't help the pump could be next. One way or the other, I'll get it resolved. The key is the heating function and all other aspects of the press are working properly. Once the vacuum regains full strength, I'll put it back on ebay, not $200 for sure.
