Can anyone tell me what matboard color matches the US Marine Corp red? I am working on a small shadowbox with a retired Marines ribbons, but I don't know the correct color red. He didn't have anything with him that showed it as most of his things are still in Colorado. I would just google it but my monitor won't reflect the correct color....

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have used the 4180cabernet artcare & the 7194garnet crescent this accents the scarlet on the cheverons of the class A greens & dress blues uniform. if you are using the metal blck chevrons they do get a little lost I suggest the brass metal cheverons. my shadow box in the military thread I used the 7194 garnet." shows the brass off & the red & gold cheverons off really nice.
the 4116 chinese Red crescent & the 4179 noel are good reds but still misses
the bainbridge 4223 blaze is a closer match to the scarlet but still a miss

If you want to wander into the kaki look try 7138 moccasin crescent or the 7139 tumbleweed cresc. or army navy surplus buy old kaki uniform shirt use that.

If you want some more casual flavor go to the army navey surplus buy a wool blanket or class a greens uniform and use that material.

Don't forget if it is a recent marine you can always use Black as that is the color of the Dress blues Oat now but if it korea or wwll it was actually closer to the 7113 marine blue crescent. the 4209 hydrangea artcarecomes in a close second..

This gentleman is a retired Lt. Colonel, with many decorations. Wants a simple box, narrow black moulding and as a background - the Marine Corps. red. He brought in his mini metals today, to be done almost the same manner as his ribbons, but for these he would like an front opening box so they can be removed for wearing to special events. The red has to be right, and it's difficult when I haven't seen it!!

Thanks for the suggestions!!

Speeking as a former Marine myself, I would have to say that the closest color in the acid free mat selections would be crecents 1612 true red. You can tell him a Marine picked the color out for him.

As a side note the red is supposed to be a reflection of the blood that the Marines have shed. So use that concept as a point of reference when you are choosing the correct color. Deep, blood red.

okay the red is interpative.
The red is slightly different on my dress blues uniform than on my Grandfathers dress blues.
Laying a set of my dress blues Chevrons on the 4223 suede bainbrigde is the closest in color. To get exact match you would have to get a red felt/wool cloth. Just as the red pipeing thread around the chevrons is even brighter red than the back ground.
