Today I wanted to download the latest FullCalc updates to get the new L-J pricing. It didn't work, so I called Eagle Computing.

The bad news is that last week's killer virus claimed all four of Eagle Computing's servers and shut down everything. No downloads until the virus is eliminated and its effects are fixed.

The good news is that they hope to have it all back up by the end of this week.

The other good news is that L-J's new prices are already loaded and will come with the download when we can get to it.

Jim: That's good information. Our server got hit, but our MIS guy saw it and unplugged it from the rest of the network and voila....only one computer infected.

As a distributor I get calls all the time on when our new items will show up in FullCalc, Life Saver, Specialty Soft and a slew of other POS software systems.

We download a list and distribute this to all "known" software vendors on a quarterly basis. The software companies then usually take a week to 10 days to download our file into their system. Then it is available. It will not show up automatically and if you receive CD updates it is not a guarantee that everyone's new items will be on the CD....remember it takes time to burn and distribute.

If you cannot find a distributor item on POS software, please start with the POS vendor. Many times they have the information. As a distributor, we cannot massage the data for your use and cannot help you, unless you are willing to enter the data on your POS system yourself.

Thanks.

John

Jim, We got our update just in the nick of time! However, in the newest updates the Larson mouldings no longer have a discription that prints out with the number. Instead of "blue Prima" it says Wood Mldg. (that narrows it down eh?) Also the Bainbridge mat colors do not print on the order

I wish they would fix these things, they are very helpful.

John,

The easiest way for us to download for price changes, new additions, etc. is to download directly from our POS vendor's website. In our case we go to Specialty Soft, click on customers, then view the current list of vendors. This will show us who has made changes recently and when. For example TC Moulding is listed as TC with their last update as 9/29/00. If I don't see any changes....then I move on. If any vendor has made a change, I download.

I use Roadrunner at home, so I download there to my hard drive, then burn a CD to load back at the shop......3-4 minutes for each function. Back at the shop, I can selectively choose which vendors need updating.

John is correct in suggesting that missing items need to be checked with the POS folks first.

I still wish more moulding vendors would use bar codes!

John

"...in the newest updates the Larson mouldings no longer have a discription...Also the Bainbridge mat colors do not print on the order..."

Call Eagle. In one of our updates several weeks ago, all of the Bainbridge color descriptions went away. When I called they suggested I download again. I did, and the colors magically came back.

When downloading FullCalc updates, be sure to follow the procedures very carefully step-by-step. I think I skipped a step in that one download.

John: Thanks for the update on Specialty Soft. It really says 9/29/00! I know we sent them an update 5/15/01 and we are preparing another one right now. Yikes...I'll have to call Jeff and find out what's going on.

Bar codes for mouldings...we have considered bar codes for TC Mouldings. If sticks are bundled or if you are buying box programs, is it ok to send a sheet of labels. In length we try not to open bundles (thus no label on the stick) and box savings are in place because of less handling. If the framer were given the labels would they be willing to apply them in these situations?

Just trying to get our ducks in a row before implementing.

John

John:

I'm checking with Speciality Soft to find out why our May download isn't showing, plus I'm preparing another one.

Thanks for the heads up!

John

Sorry....computer went wacky, first message didn't appear right away.
