I had a call for Uniframes. Caller really didn't know what they were called, but I understood what she was looking for. They were going to display matted artwork and they wanted to be able to reuse the hanger when a piece is sold. They travel and need to keep things light. So, there really is a good use for those things.

I had 5 frames in my left overs in my garage. I had tried to sell them at my yard sale last summer and for whatever reason, I didn't. I kept thinking I should just trash them and make better use of the space. Yay, she stopped by and I sold those things for real cash. Not a lot, but better than the trash. :D :D :D

Just goes to show there may be a real use there.

Uniframes

See the post about acrylic sandwich job above. Leave these things for the college bookstore so the kids can learn all by themselves.

So, the customer is going to travel with these UniFrames?

This sort of "frameless" edge-binding system is intended to use with glass, but if weight is an issue, acrylic might be the customer's choice. Either way, a UniFrame is an ineffective display at best, and an invitation to disaster at worst.

A. Glass in a UniFrame tends to make a mess when broken, since there is nothing to retain its edges. In a container for transit, the glass shards would probably destroy whatever art is in close proximity.

B. Acrylic in a UniFrame tends to bend under the constant tension of the edge-bindings, which makes it loosen, which makes it likely to fall apart.

Yes, they are traveling. The art will all be packed well. There will be no glass on the display, shrinkwrapped and when they arrive, the Uniframe will be added so the art can be hung for display. This is a temporary use for an art show. When a piece is sold, the frame will be removed and can be reused.
