Underpinner woes

Hi all...

I have a friend who has a VN 2+1 underpinner and is having trouble with it. The 90 degree angle is lifting up when driving a nail and is now stuck about 1/4 inch up from the table. It won't move forward or backward at all. Any ideas? Tried bleeding the air completely and it still won''t go down.

I have a Fletcher underpinner so I am no help. Anybody out there have any advice I can pass on?
 
More clues. Are you talking about the 90 degree angle thingy that the moulding back is set into or the thingy that pushes the v-nail into the wood.
