I have a Pistorius underpinner, and the extension wings seem shorter than on some
nailers I have seen. I am wondering what others use to support the three joined sides
of the frame while the final corner is joined? I am thinking of building some sort of table,
but I wondered if anyone had a picture or description of what they use? I am thinking
that almost any kind of table is going to preclude working from the front of the nailer.

Hey Scott,

I had the same problem some years ago and I built a simple 1 foot square foamcore pedestal the height of the wings on my Euro 9009 and it has worked for me for years.

Take some 3/16" foamcore and cut the four sides to the exact height of the top of your wing tables. You can insert another piece of foamcore in the top and bottom for make an enclosed box and I also glued 4 strips 2" wide flush with the top of the pedestal to give me something to grip onto.

Once you get the pieces cut, dry fit them and pin them together to make sure everything fits the way you want. Then take some plain ol' Elmers white and run a glue line on each edge, pin together with straight pins until the glue dries, and you are in business.

Hmmmm.....I've always worked from the back or the side when underpinning so any old table setup would work. One thing I did at a production shop I worked at was to raise the table and the underpinner to about a 44" height. This was a lot easier on our backs.

We use a fairly elderly Cassesse 830 to which I have attached a work table built of 16mm. craftwood supported on a steel tube frame. This allows me to work behind the machine and it works extremely well until our unpaid staff ( Sharon, the hairdresser from nextdoor and Lorraine the office lady from across the road use it as a table for morning smoko ) and then I have to clean it off before I can use it again. The only better bench I have seen is a revolving work top at the same height as the underpinner which saves lifting the frame to work on each corner. I will build one some day but there is a lot of work in constructing this table. I hope I have been of some help. Alan

I built a table that lets the cassise stand in the middle. I made it from 3/4 partical board & painted it white. Looking down at it from above, the whole thing looks like a "U" shaped table with the underpiner at the bottom of the "U". We join from the back of the machine (The part that is opposit the cartridge). When your operating the pinner, you have a table on each side of you. I also went to a welder and had him make me two stands the exact hight of the pinner. They consist of a 1 1/2 inch thick and about 10 inches in diameter heavy base. 3/4 inch pipe welded to that, then a round top piece made of 1/8 inch thick metal, about 4 inches in diameter. I painted them bright orange so I wouldn't be stumbling into them. We use these to support larger frames as we're joining them.

Thanks for all the replies. Just this very morning I have constructed the foamcore box from the first suggestion. I will see how it works! I would love to see pictures of some of the other suggestions - maybe we could have a gallery of shop photos.
