I'm curious about what holiday hours you are having? Are you open Friday or taking a long weekend? By the way, I hit a milestone 9 days ago, open 5 years and 9 days. Its been an interesting ride.

Congrats on the 5 year mark!

We will be open regular hours on Friday 10-6

Congrats on the 5 years! I'll be closed Wednesday (doctors appointment) thru Sunday. Will most likely be in the shop on Saturday working on the 1886 plat map behind closed doors.

I think a lot depends on your location. I am very much a destination location.
Yes, I will be open on that Friday, but might go home earlier if it's really dead.
Saturdays are my quietest days of the week. Last year was a strange year, so can't compare with that.
I will try this year. If no customers, then next year I'll reconsider being open or take the long weekend....

And congrats on the 5 years, 9 days!!!!

I am opening at 6 am for the early bird shoppers.

Regular hours, although I have stayed closed on Friday but it's more a issue of child care not biz.

Congrats on the 5 years! I should stop in sometime on our trips up north!

Oh Carp Batman!!!

I was sure I would close but then I just looked at last years numbers and it was 10% of my month. Why did I ever look at it. I need a day off and that one was perfect for it.

open normal hours Fri & Sat with help running store..we'll be in Louisiana for a cajun thanksgiving all week ( Mon-Sat )

Congrats on the Big 5!!
Hoping to hit 4 soon myself...big struggle, you should be very proud!!

I am working normal hours wednesday. Thursday-Closed. Friday-Closed. Saturday-closed. Sunday-closed. First real vacation in near four years except two hospital stays this year. My health says take time; heck even my customers are saying take time. Jeez I love small business. It'll all be there on monday-'cuz I ain't selling kidneys...just frames and thread.

Have a great one folks!!
And don't look at the numbers from last year...look at the bags under your eyes. That's what I did!:D

Jeff,

Didn't know you had CARP in Myrtle Beach. I know you don't have a batman. :icon9:

My schedule depends on what the BOSS (my Wife) decides. :D

BTW: Congrats SimplyMatted

Congrats on the five year mark !! Today is my two year !!
I will be closed on Thanksgiving but open regular hours after that.

congrats on 5 years! anybody still around in this economy has to count their blessings.

We will be closed turkey day, but thats all, were going to try and have a big day after sale on friday (never done one before) but we'll see if people leave the malls for shops like mine on that day

Congrats on 5 years. My 3rd year anniversiary was Nov 1. :)
I'll be open regular hours on Friday and Saturday. The Friday after Thanksgiving is usually not busy with customers, so I don't have many employees scheduled those days, but we do have work that needs to be done. Saturday will probably be decently busy.

Like Jeff, Black Friday was 10% of my business. I will be open 6am til 9pm. I may open at 5:30.

Black Friday used to be better for independents who are not in malls, but of course we will be open. Open Wednesday and Friday. Closed Thanksgiving day. Same for the days before and after Christmas and New Year's day.

Our daughter used to call Black Friday "National Shopping Day." Now she has an office job and has to work. Ah, the reality of adulthood.

We'll be closed on Thanksgiving, but open regular
hours the rest of the week. So open Tues., Wed.,
Fri. and Sat.

I will be closed on Thanksgiving and maybe thinking about taking Friday off unless someone needs to pick something up I am certainly not a Black Friday destination and even perhaps one of those people who is against this frenzied idiotic shopping garbage so I may just stay closed for that reason and be open on Saturday.

Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do - take two days off, then work a half day, then 2 days off again. Not bad, eh?

5 years is a great milestone... congratualations!

I'm closing a bit early on Wednesday and won't re-open
until Monday AM. Going up north and fryin' a turkey!

This will be the longest period of time I have ever closed
my shop and I am going to enjoy the heck out of it!

Closed Thanksgiving. Regular hours Friday and Saturday. Fridays have always been busy, and I am hoping it continues this year.

Uke mania

I'm heading up to Lexington Mass. to shop for a Ukulele! Yeah. I have two, but I really really need another one! :D.
Going to stay overnight and maybe drive into Boston on Sat. So a long weekend for me, reopen on Monday. So far behind that what's another three days......:faintthud:

Smile Away
N

and Congrats on 5 years and have a Happy Thanksgiving

Thank You all for the kind "atta boys" I just talked with a my rep Michelle, guess who is bringing me home made bread and from scratch punkin pie. LOL i know its pumpkin, but around these here parts its punkin pie. And I still haven't decided my turkey hours yet.

Congratulations...

Best wishes for reaching this key milestone.

We're closing a few hours early on Wednesday - 5pm and then Thanksgiving Day. We'll be open both Friday and Saturday. With gifts and home decor we get pretty steady traffic both days. Corporate folks like to bring family and out of town guests into their favorite places to shop - DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY.

We also see a big kick in website sales that whole weekend (side note: We're seeing an increase in our online purchases in number and $ spent over the past 3-4 weeks, so I think this might be a good sign for the fourth quarter spending compared to the past two years).

reg hour 10-6

If we are busy that would be great, if not we can catch-up orders and that would work also.

Well I have a fun one for you. The mall which I have my store opens at midnight the day after Thanksgiving. The surrounding area has many of the big stores which do all those crazy 3 a.m. sales so the mall is trying to capture a few of them here. The mall is doing 2 very nice promotions.
1) Spend $100 and get a $50 giftcard
2) With every purchase a chance to win a $1000 gift card at the live drawing (must be preesnt to win)

So far I have heard a fair response from potential shoppers so I am keeping my fingers crossed. The down side is I am forced to have one of those rediculous sales in order to hopfully bring a few people into my store so I am not just wasting payroll. I am offering namemats buy 1 get 1 free, and we will also do 40% off all pre framed art. Wish me luck!
