Did you know that there was such a thing? I didn't, until today.

I got a call this afternoon and the gentleman said, "I got your phone number from the Tru-Vue framer locator site. Do you know what Museum Glass is?"

When I told him that I did, he said, "Finally! I've been calling all over the place trying to find someone who knew what it was. Then I finally did a search for Tru-Vue glass, found their website, then found you. I'll be by in about an hour."

I LOVE free advertising!

Yeah, Betty, you must have registered on TV's website for something as they automatically put your information on the framer locator if you register with them. I have been registered for the service for some time but never tried it out. I just did and ran a search for any framers within a 200 mile radius of my Zip code and got nuthin'!!

I called them and they said their website is down and they would check into it first thing tomorrow. He verified that my gallery information was listed on the site so I guess it is only good if the site is up and working.

A bad website is worse than no site at all, in my opinion.

I had a guy come in this afternoon (with no art in hand) asking about Museum Glass pricing. Maybe he took a wrong turn at West Virginia.

I checked out this site a few weeks ago and it had several shops in the area listed, but not mine. Half of the listed shops are out of business now and have been for some time. I called Tru-Vue to find out how to update it, and was told I couldn't right now, TV is in the process of changing it and it would be "several months" before any changes/updates could be made.

I'll call them again tomorrow:Tru-Vue Framer's Helpline 1-800-282-8788

Well shoot, I should have known there would be something wrong with it.

There is also a fundamental flaw in their search logic.

If you search any radius from a zip code that contains no existing listings then it comes up blank. For example a 5,000 mile (yes even a 5,000 mile) radius of my zip code (92780) reveals no entries!

But a search starting from 90210 works OK because there are already listings within the zip code 90210.

They should change their logic to work from any valid zip irrespective of whether or not they have a listing in that area.

As it is it's nigh on useless till your surrounding zip codes contain listings!!!!!!!

As a former CIO (Chief Information Officer) and occasional systems/business consultant I get so tired of hearing baloney from companies about how long it takes to make website changes, especially when the current website is a total waste of space.

Changes can (and should) happen quickly ... it is always a question of attitude of mind and having the right person drive the change!

If it's going to "take several months" for changes to be made then my forecast is that this site will always be ineffective. They need someone to drive the change. Tru-Vue if you are reading this and want someone to make stuff happen give me a call! I'll be glad to send you my professional resume and provide consultative support for a very moderate fee.

In the meantime I'll step down from my soapbox! Please excuse the rant. It's been a long day!

I .... TV is in the process of changing it and it would be "several months" before any changes/updates could be made.

HEY! Mr. Moderator, would you please remove this thread?:help: I thought I'd share something, but all I've shared is problems!

I know this is called "The Grumble" but I'm sick and tired of all the griping. No matter what the topic, somebody gripes about something.

I'm just about over it.

Personally I thought it was a very useful post ... it's always good to learn of something new ... even if it's flawed ... only by discussing the flaws will they be improved.

Thanks for sharing Betty.

;)

Pssst...I wasn't griping. Just sharing the info I was given when I tried to register my shop. Jim, the man at the TV help line was very nice, in fact, and sympathetic that he couldn't help on a help line. Said to try again later. And tomorrow is later. That's all.

geeeze newman---get a grip. Its theraputic to vent your innermost conflicts/aggressions!!!! take 2 valium(better make that 3!) & read back with us tomorrow...... of course someone is always griping----that human nature--take it or leave it! there are as many opinions about any given subject as there are people....never been different, never will. for whats left of it---have a NICE day:smiley:

I did a search for me on TruVue’s site and it didn’t show either me or any of my competitors within a 25 mile radius, so, at least, my competition doesn’t have a advantage.

I tried to Google “Picture Fram* Glass” and TruVue’s site didn’t come up on the first page. I then tried “Picture Fram* museum glass” and they showed up 9th on the first page.

It seem like a peculiar combination of search terms to use for the average customer, I think. It would seem to me that most people would search for a local framer rather than one carrying a particular brand of glass.
