Hi all, I have a framesquare saw that I've had for at least 15 years and I just started having a problem with it. I am having trouble with it "bogging" down when cutting, and at times coming to a complete stop. It has a new motor (same one - just brand new) and belt. I was having trouble with it doing this before replacing the motor (which is probably why I had too). I have checked everything I know to and can't figure out why it is doing this. It will do it on any moulding that is 1 1/2' thick.

Any insite would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lisa,

I'd say the blade might be the problem. Do you have a replacement you could try? Also, a bearing could be shot. Otherwise, give Framesquare a call. They're wonderful.

also check your electrical service to see that you are getting true 110V or 220V from your electrical supplier. Sometimes there can be a problem on individual lines in neighborhoods that result in your getting less voltage that specified. This lower voltage is also hard on all electrical equipment.

I've noticed two things that make my framesquare bog down....a blade that needs to be sharpened and a belt that does not have the correct tension, thus causing the belt to slip slightly. On very hard woods, I let the saw do the work, that is don't overload the saw by trying to cut to quick. Have any of you that own framesquares re-wired them to 210/220 volts? Did you have to change the motor to one with more hp?

Call Richard or Roy @ FrameSquare. Either can help you with the problem and be able to give you belt tensioning specs.

Are you using genuine FrameSquare branded blades? After having trouble with other manufacturer blades that were "made for FrameSquare" but with different specs...... I will only use genuine FrameSquare blades.

I'd say that if the breaker doesn't trip (and its the correct amperage) you have some kind of slippage problem - bet its the belt - does it smoke or give off odors.? If its a dull blade or bad bearing or there is too much load on the circuit, or not enough volts - I'm pretty sure the breaker would go!

Well, I am working with a brand new blade (tried the old one also), didn't make a difference. The breaker does trip (on the motor) - but not every time I have the problem. The belt is brand new, replaced it with the motor. Will have to find out about the tension...

I have a call in to Framesquare - played a bit of tag yesterday.

I would like to thank all of you for your comments, it really is great to have a place to go to ask - anything!!

anything??? - just stay away from religion & politics!!! ha ha

I'll bet the motor is gone - call an electric motor repair place - maybe the windings are shorting!

Lisa, what is the horse power of the new motor? The motor on my framesquare is 115 volts, 1/2 hp and has rpm of 1725. have you talked to framesquare? i'm interested in their answer.

My motor has the same as yours, and I just recently had to replace it because this problem burned it up.

As for what framesquare said, they believe it to be the bearing gone bad. I have to get back with them about how to replace that - had some personal stuff going on that became a priority - even over a sick saw!!

HB I'll keep that in mind while posting...I have read some very interesting conversations on here - so I know what you mean!!

Hey Mik - I'm originally a Colorado girl, moved here from Longmont.

Miss those mountains!!

It's hot and humid here, as humid as Pueblo gets...87 degrees with 30% humidity. How can you stand the high humidity all the time????? Will be going to Loveland on the 11th for the Sculpture in the Park and the Loveland Sculpture Invitational. Will think of you when driving past Longmont!
