A lady came in today with a US flag folded in a triangular shape. I have seen some of these framed in Decor mag, but can't find any pictures.

Can anyone give me some detailed info on framing this flag and perhaps some website that has pictures of finished frames so I can show the customer some ideas, please?

We have done a bunch of flags (because of the large military area we are in). Unfortunately we have only framed them with other certificates or pictures. For our Flag shaped frames we order from Spartacraft. They don't have a web site that we know of but you can get a catalog with pictures of their finished products.

Thanks Susan & Fastframe for your replies. As I am on the opposite side of the globe it is impractical to order a ready made flag case so I will have to make one.

I assume that the folded flag just sits in the case without being attached in any way. Is this correct?

G'day Osgood ...

Under flag protocol, the Aussie flag is not folded in a triangular fashion like the US one.

To start, the flag must be upside down, - flat. Fold lengthways once, then once again. Bring the two ends together. Now concertina by folding backwards and forwards until it is neatly bundled. It is kept bundled by winding the rope under itself.

You can frame it in a rectangular shadow box if it's on its own, or you can velcro the package onto the back of the box for mounting with other related materials.

IF you want a holder for the folded flag that you are going to put in a rectangle frame with maybe other items...CALL me. We make one of those.

Here are a couple other sites
Custom Wood Creations
or
Woodworkers United for America

Keep in mind, two of the "rules" for displaying the folded flag are:
1) The flag should be the uppermost item in the display, nothing should be displayed above the flag.
2) The long side of the flag should be horizontal.

One of the websites I listed, breaks those rules. I guess it depends how picky you want to be.

Woodworkers United website has free plans for building your own case.
