what kind of touch up markers do you guys use? we've used chartpak, among others, and they just don't seem to last very long. i'd like to find something like the sharpie magnum in a larger variety of colors, but they only come in black, red and blue. any suggestions for a wide tipped, long lasting marker?

I bought a set of wood colored markers labeled Design Art Markers by Eberhard Faber. This set has lasted me years and years and years. 20 years maybe? I don't use them every day of the week but still, for solvent based markers - their longevity is remarkable.

I have a set like Mar's, or half a set anyways. They are over 20 yrs old and still going strong. The ones that died was because the cap fell off, or I didnt replace it. I bet they make them different now.

Man, those Design markers were way better than the Pantone ones - they lasted forever and came in a kajillian colors. I worked in an art sdupply store that used to carry them and I found myself spending my paychecks in the store......

*paychecks*

I remember paychecks.........

*heavy sigh*

Definitely.

I have 3 kinds that I've used. Two brands last a few weeks/months, including Prismacolor (I forget the name of the other).

However the Mohawks that I inherited when I bought my store 3.5 years ago have never worn out. I still have and still use them. I just don't have many colors of them, which is one reason I use the others. The Mohawks will also stick to smooth finishes to which the others will not adhere. When touching up furniture pieces, I only use the Mohawks.

thanks. i think the eberhard faber design art markers have been discontinued, as near as i can find out. i think i'll try the mohawk. any specific model you would recommend?

dave, you're right. and green. i know these are not specificallly made for the framing industry, but i cannot remember the last blue, red or green wood frame i used.

Chartpak makes the wood-tone markers. I also like Prismacolor markers that have a chisel point at one end and a fine point at the other.
