Taking a poll of framers as to how many mouldings account for what percentage of sales. For example, 12 mouldings account for 65%.

Thanks in advance for your input. I'll publish the results in a couple of weeks

My top sellers the ones I can best relate to what my customers bring in, based on my aesthetics and the customers price tolerances. In no particular order...
1. Cheap black
2. Nice small gold
3. Cetificate frame (boring)
4. Cherry
5. Maple
6. Rustic wood or burl
7. Contemporary metalic or silver
8. Ebonized walnut

Thats all I got.
 
Hi, Howard. I see that you've been here since August and this is only your third post. In which case, I think it's still safe to say Welcome to the G. :)

It's a good question you're asking, but you might not get a lot of takers. Most people will be wondering who you are, why you're asking, and where you're planning to 'publish' the results. Are you just trying to find out in general and by 'publish' you mean posting them here? You might find it works better to start a thread that's not set up as a survey. If you go to the Grumble forum and just write a thread asking this question, you'll be likely to get more responses.

If you do that, it helps to say who you are and why you're asking. Are you someone who already works in a frame shop, getting ready to open on, or some other situation? Are you wondering what sorts of frames in general, of which an example would be the good list that Randy gave you? Or were you hoping that people would list specific frames by certain companies?

If people know a bit more about why you're wanting to know, they can better respond to your questions. If you are already a framer, to get the ball rolling you might list those that you use the most. Just some friendly thoughts..... :icon21:
 
Okay, here's one. Frames that are the kind of soft, faded tones that look good with charcoal drawings, old sepia photographs and faded pencil sketches. Usually these are some sort of ages silver with almost lavendar washes, or frames that have plum tones in the wood. Be it oak or something with a faded metallic finish, when I find one of these soft frames the look good with old faded tones, I keep it for a long, long time.
 
I'm fairly new here, but...

I thought that when you start a thread with looking for something and people are wondering what you are talking about so they ask you questions, it's a good thing to post a response to clarify yourself... anyway, in the two months I've been a "pro" framer, I have had one Nurre Caxton frame ordered several times, few Roma and mostly Larson Juhl. The Nurre was the Frisson.

100 - 100% (includes 240 frames since over 100 of those were tied at 1 each)

didn't sell more than 240 diff moulding

Flat Black
any distressed western looking moldings
a good amount love the roma tabaccino collection
thin gold frames
easy good clean woods like oak sell pretty well too
