To Dry or Not to Dry

mount???

-Mike.

Sorry first post.... Here is my question.
Hi all I frame my own photos for personal use using rag mat and hinging the image to the backing. I want to frame or just mat several photos in several sizes 5x7 8x10 11x16...for a flea market. The photo paper is archival, and I want to know if I should hinge the smaller images that are not framed or dry mount them. I do not have a dry mount press nor have I used any of the spray's or adhesive boards. Any thoughts.

Keep in mind that I'm a framer that is tired of trying to fix other peoples mistakes...

I suggest that you don't dry mount them. I would either use photo corners, or hinges. PLEASE, when you sell your pictures, tell your customers that they are to have the pictures properly framed. Do not use any sprays, or sticky boards!

Welcome to the Grumble, Pete.

I'll second* Sue's advice not to mount the photos. I would also suggest that you present them in a way that will make mounting an option for the buyer, should they choose to do so.

In other words, please don't stick anything to the back of the photo (like a label or tape) that would emboss through to the front if the piece were dry mounted.

And I probably don't need to mention that if you sign the mat, you should use a c/p quality board. Cuz you wouldn't want your name on something that, three years from now, will be faded and discolored, right?

pete dont drymount and save yourself a headache. if done incorrectly it will devalue your artwork. maybe you should take a framing class at your local communtiy college if they offer it? it might help you a bit, or you could talk to a framer about what they suggest.

welcome to the grrrrrrummblle

Thank you all for your advice. I may even try to work out a deal with a local frame shop I use....You all know the story...of trying to keep the cost low. However, I do not want to sell my work with non archival non reversable mounting.
