Question To Cut or Not to Cut?

That is the question. I have a dark red t-shirt I'm framing with the autographed front side showing but also showing (and distracting the heck out of me) is the shirt's bright white tags in the neck. Is it acceptable to cut those out?

I would call the customer and ask.

You could use an insert/former, color to suit, that shows in the neck and covers them, after all, when worn there is something in the shirt that would conceal them - someone's neck!

Russ, I probably will call the customer and ask but I thought it would be a good general question since I'm sure this comes up with others. It doesn't help that it has folded itself upward so it's pointing the wrong way. :icon11: At the very least it's going to get ironed and attached down.

John, that is a good solution and I'm sure it would work in some cases but it wouldn't look right in this shirt. I, however, consider the possibility of covering it but couldn't decide with what.

can you show us your design.
I have put small picture of subject or event over parts of a shirt that I wanted to cover up

Usually the jerseys that I frame are signed on the back so the tags are not an issue.
I did have one recently with the same problem with the tags and I wondered about cutting them off.

I agree with John on this.
I used a small patch of matching fabric sewn over the tags to cover them.

I also did a St. Louis Cardinals jersey just last week that had really bad stains on it.
It wasn't signed so we had it cleaned and it was almost perfect except for 2 small stains on the tail of the shirt.

We included about 10 player baseball cards so I covered the remaining stains with a couple of the cards on top of the jersey with the rest at the bottom of the jersey.

You just gave me a brilliant idea for a new framing product for use in displays like these: artificial neck panels!

The value is in the signature, not the shirt itself. It's just a t-shirt, although it is a better quality one and it was printed with a local fire department logo and 100th anniversary on it. One of the members then had it signed by a rock star he happens to work for so they could auction it off to raise money for new equipment.
