Normally closed Sundays, I turned up this morning to take care of production ... waiting for me is someone in need of "emegency framing" ... I wonder how long he would have waited. if I hadn't come in today!

Then I get a call ...

"I need an oak frame about this by that ... how quick can I have it?" ...

"I don't have oak in stock but can get it done for you by the end of the week ... do you need it for Christmas?"

"Why so long? Doncha have something similar to oak? Something that you can do RIGHT NOW! I'm looking for a place that has the pieces already cut so that they can put it together in half an hour while I wait."

"Good luck ... "

I call those emergency jobs "911 framing" and this time of the year they are all "911" jobs. After Wednesday all of those jobs will get Oak if they want it done. We stock a lot of Oak and use a lot. I have one profile that we stock unfinished and finish it with Liberon waxes. One profile requires the use of nails to join and we discourage that one for last minute framing unless it is a life threatening job. Join me in a distant toast on the evening of Dec. 24.

I have the luxury of next day delivery from at least 4 suppliers here in Denver so I could take an order in on Thursday night and they would still have a pretty wide selection. The question is will I be able to? As things stand right now I have approx 40 pieces still due by the 23rd. It really hasn't been as rushed as it could be so I figure I could take in another 15 or so and get them done. Even more if I planned on working on Sunday. I'm usually closed on Sunday's and had hoped to be so this year, it isn't often I get 2 days in a row off. But, we will see how the week goes, if people ask I can't see turning them away. To take the pressure off a bit I am going to date anything I take this week for the 24th, that way I have the room if I can't get everything done by Saturday.

This is where my time served at Michael's comes in handy. I can go into what I call "Ninja Framing" mode and really knock out quite a bit in a short amount of time. I think having that big shop experience really helps me think bigger in my small shop. Ho, Ho, Ho!

Funny, Kathy, I was thinking that, too!
