We are getting more and more requests for jerseys.... and I am getting to really dislike them ..... if I get the job I think I am losing money on the time it takes to get it done and if I charge for the time - which I fully believe I should be doing - I lose the job due to the cost.

I have tried sewing, using foam board to shape the body arms etc. I have tried Pats Attach-eze... I just can't seem to get the job done in a respectable amount of time... which leads me to believe that maybe I am under estimating the time it should take to complete a jersey shadowbox.

So.. a hockey jersey mounted with a picture of the player on a separate 6 ply board and mat "frame" attached to the front bottom right....

How much time does it take to get the package together? 1/2 hour... 1 hour... 3 hours.... what do grumblers plug into their quote.

I am not talking about dollars... I am trying to figure the time allotment to see if this is something that I should be doing.

Thanks

Jeanne ...I know this isn't the type of jersey box you're talking about, but I have a local carpenter guy make removable front 30X40 oak boxes with an oak back and an oak hanger. Comes with standard acrylic.

He charges me $ 65.00. I charge $ 165.00 and it takes all of 15 seconds to hang the jersey in the box. I keep telling him he should charge me more, but he says he's happy and if I charged any less it would be ridiculous. :o Takes me another 4-5 minutes to put on WallBuddies.

Now if I do a custom jersey box and use the AttachEZ I would guesstimate that the average jersey takes 1/2 to one hour to mount. Of course then there's side panels, rigid backing, etc.

jeanne-I'm still old-school. I sew down the jerseys, mount photo in mat(frame) everything even shadowbox mat.
Start to finish (if no customers come in) about 1 1/2 hours. \
But I do charge a labor fee for the assembly part. 1/2 hour $40
Thats added to price of sewing down, frame, mat, glass, etc.....
Hope this helps, not sure what the going rate is in your part of the US

We use a tag gun and can get them done in under an hour. We do a ton of jerseys here and seem to have it down. BTW our jersey package is $229.

The cost of materials is around $35 so it yeilds a nice profit and brings in repeat business all the time.

Jeanne, I'm old school as well. Stuff the jersey with A/F foam, stitch the jersey down, etc.... and I charge 2 hours labor.

COOL!

That looks great Dave!

What moulding are you using?

I use Studio 25301 or LJ tribeca 382285. These are both mouldings that I buy by the box. The frame size is 32x40.

Black Iris, Yes you can have it, send me a check or call with a credit card for $259 + shipping and it's all yours. The extra $30 is for the jersey itself.

I like this presentation, because it doesn't accentuate the fact that the jersey is probably not symmetrical, like most.

I like the name/number cut on the mat, too!

Thanks to all -

I guess I am in the turtle catagory 1 1/2 to 3 hours - so I either need to find a quicker way - ie hang the dang thing - or find customers who will pay for the uniform stuffing etc from a perfectionist.

We are not all ment to be masters at everything
